War on drugs is a war on people. Thanks to Gov. Newsom's emergency regulation, parents needing safe access to cbd for their kids are now criminals. Again. This is a massive step backwards. I do not support regulations like this at all. There were several other options that could have created a safer hemp market. Do I think we need to figure out the farm act so that it protects consumers? Yes. Do I think these products need age gates? Yes. Do I think these products should be tested by a reputable lab? Yes. Prohibition does not work. Do better.
Cannabis related regulation in the United States is everchanging and rapid, and California has just recently made a significant move to add to that. Governor Gavin Newsom’s recent emergency regulation to ban hemp-derived THC products in California has stirred up controversy and confusion. For individuals who depend on these products for medical purposes or enjoy them recreationally, the new regulations could have a profound effect. Additionally, hemp businesses are likely to face significant repercussions. Continued in the link below.
Please reset your hemp thinking: All this "kill the business" whining is funny. The hemp side has been trying to sell the public a schedule 1(regulated) THCa/d8 etc with synthetic levels up to 150Mg per package-- all based on a questionable synthetic loophole in the '18 Farm Bill. Are you wanting us to swallow this line of reasoning. 3Chi3 once said, "if we could make heroin out of CBD, we would do it." Kill what business?
They are massively overreaching. A lawsuit has been filed to challenge the regs. https://mjbizdaily.com/lawsuit-seeks-to-block-california-ban-on-intoxicating-hemp-derived-products/#:~:text=California%20hemp%20illegal%20'overnight'&text=According%20to%20the%20suit%2C%20the,an%20order%20blocking%20its%20implementation.
Thank you for sharing this, Meg! It's so important to have voices like yours speaking out on how regulations can impact families and businesses alike. I completely agree that while protecting consumers is essential, there are smarter ways to do so without criminalizing parents who are just trying to help their children. Your points about lab testing and age gates are spot on — solutions like these could create a safer, more balanced approach. Prohibition isn’t the answer. We need thoughtful, effective regulations that actually benefit the community.
Great words and the fact you’re a licensed operator holds a lot more weight on this convo!
nailed it- also my big question is... (i know I know) but why do we even need to specificy a "reputable" lab... these labs should all be doing the job ethically. smh
deregulate everything. shut down the fda dea and most of the other alphabet agencies. start over. new deal burecracy has run amok. there’s no reforming it. anyone in cannabis or hemp not at this point in their thinking is not a serious business person.
Newsom lied to the growers then backed Prop 64 and destroyed medical cannabis. Now he wants to cry foul?
This will be an interesting spin around for Californians.
I strongly agree.....well put.

2moMeg - NYS passed similar regulations. Order online. Im a bit confused here though. I thought anything with detectable thc was banned, so thst would mean broad spectrum would still be available. Generally, when we had parents come in for a child we would sell them broad spectrum, if a child needs thc isnt there a medical MJ markrt for that? Also - arent CBD products witg detectable limits still being sold in MJ dispensaries? I guess I dont understand, because these utens are still available they are jist only available through the regulated system.
