I attended a great panel this morning at Denver Startup Week called "How Hiring Fractional Talent Can Drive Quick Wins for Small and Medium Size Businesses." SMS marketing is an effective tool to cut through the noise and help increase event attendance - if used correctly. This was a fun post (and comment thread) to read! I completely agree that getting from 6 to 5 seconds may not make a difference, but that doesn't mean page speed doesn't matter – it may just mean you need to create more than a 1-second improvement. There's a ton of data on this. When I first observed this pattern years ago, I named it the "performance plateau": the point at which changes to your website’s rendering metrics (such as Start Render and Largest Contentful Paint) cease to matter because you’ve bottomed out in terms of business and user engagement metrics. Making your pages faster while neglecting your content and other aspects of the UX is absolutely wrong-headed.

CartMango. This week I tore apart the Offer creation flow of my upcoming checkout/cart platform — CartMango. Most platforms call it “Product”.  I call it “Offer”. Because regardless if it’s a product or service... It’s an Offer. I invested quite a bit of time here because this Offer creation part is the most important. It’s where users set up their: - Price - Delivery (how to deliver the offer to customers) - Payment provider (Stripe/PayPal) - Order bump (to boost revenue) I gave a lot of feedback on this Offer creation flow to my teammates. Here’s some (see screenshot). In other news, a subscriber wrote: "I’m currently using WooCommerce on my website, and I’m able to design nice sales pages for my products because I use the Divi theme and builder." . We won’t have a landing page builder for CartMango. Maybe a super minimalistic one in the future for folks who wanna quickly spin up a basic sales page. My goal with CartMango is a simple cart for coaches & course creators who wanna set up offers in seconds. Yes. SECONDS. While focusing on revenue-boosting capabilities like: - order bumps - auto dunning - 1-click upsells - cart abandoned recovery Etc. We’re not gonna have a full-fledged landing page builder like LeadPages... Or even trying to be an all-in-1 tool like ClickFunnels, GoHighLevel, or Kajabi. You can use any landing page builder to design the sales page. Then simply insert CartMango’s buy/checkout link there. Also, CartMango is not for selling physical products like WooCommerce. “Just because you don’t systemize something, doesn’t mean it’s going to magically stop happening.” Holy Bananas! That’s a rock-solid awesome insight from David Jenyns of SYSTEMology powered by systemHUB. He recently joined me on Sell With Authority to share how agencies can better use systems and processes to create what he calls critical client flow —  the flow to successfully deliver a final product or service to a client. Candidly, you can't systemize everything — and you shouldn’t try to. But if you refine that critical client flow — you create a business that thrives without being dependent on key individuals. Once you master this, you can identify the systems and processes that are key to day-to-day business operations and designate a team member to make sure they stay in line. I’m telling you, getting strategic about managing your systems and processes is a game-changer. It’s time to double down on systemizing your critical client flow. One thing I've learned working for myself: if your tech truly works, offer free pilots. Here's the thing: I've never had success with a single free pilot before TXI (I tried many times at each of my prev. tech startups). Either the client paid, and had skin in the game, or they didn't, and churned. So why are they working so well now? In short: for the first time in my career, I have a product that sells itself. We deploy, and like clock-work, performance improves better+faster than anything I've ever seen in Search (and have heard the same from my co-founders and clients alike). I repeat, If your tech works, offer free pilots! Best case, you'll have more success than you know how to handle. Worst case, you'll learn that your product isn't creating that much value, which may lead you down a path to creating something better 🤷‍♂️

Let’s talk about the allure of building complex systems. Early in my career, I was guilty of building complex CRM systems that were more fascinating than functional. I thought I was solving problems with advanced features, but in reality, I was creating systems that were hard to manage and tough to scale. This is a common issue. Often, developers or consultants build intricate solutions that are intellectually challenging, but they miss the mark on practicality. When I walk into companies now, I see it all the time - CRMs loaded with custom code and complex workflows that create more problems than they solve. Here’s the lesson I learned: Simplicity wins in the long run. A CRM doesn’t need to be “fancy” to be effective. Instead, it should focus on core functionality and scalability, using native tools and automation whenever possible. By rolling back unnecessary customization and embracing straightforward, architecturally sound setups, companies can save time and avoid costly adjustments down the road. If you’re building or managing a CRM, aim for the simplest solution that meets your needs now and grows with you in the future. In the end, simplicity is the best strategy for sustainable growth.

I'm bummed that we had to cancel yesterday's Denver B2B Connect mixer. I love our micro-events! It's so much fun to meet folks IRL and build real relationships with other B2B marketers. But... Denver got hit with a massive early winter storm. They closed schools, and roads were a mess. Beth Slack and I rented an Airbnb in the foothills and got totally snowed in. So, your website sucks… Heads up - If your website is causing more harm than good, it's time to do something about it. These are 5 of the most common website issues that I have seen lately and how to fix them: ❶ Make it mobile-friendly: I have been seeing this time and time again, get with the times! Over half of website traffic comes from mobile. If your site isn't mobile-friendly, you're waving goodbye to potential customers. ❷ Speed it up: If I land on a site and it doesn’t load almost immediately, I’m out.. most likely for good. In the digital world, speed is king. If your site has slow page speeds then your bounce rate will increase slowing your growth and missing out of customers. ❸ Understand user behavior: Improve your user experience by using heatmaps and recordings to quickly identify where users are falling off. Once you’ve nailed down the issue, talk about it with your team and fix it. ❹ CTA: If you want your website visitors to do something, be clear about it. Make your conversion path straightforward and easy to follow. This will guide your visitors to take the action you want them to take. ❺ Fresh content: I hate it when I get on a site and then come back 6 months later and everything is the same. Keep your website up-to-date with new and interesting content. This will keep your audience engaged and help with conversion rates and engagement. Here's a BONUS - ❻ Test, Measure, Repeat: Never launch without testing. Once you've made changes, test them. Use A/B testing to see if your changes have made an impact.
