It's clear that data and insights are crucial for effective customer cultivation. However, the use of CDPs may perpetuate the problem of technology overload for marketers. Instead of solely relying on technology, it's time to focus on data strategies that solve business objectives. Identifying those objectives and the necessary data to support them should be the priority, recognizing the the martech technology is secondary. Quite frankly if we get the data right, ALL tools are effective. It's time to shift the focus back to the root of the problem - data. CDP, CRM, DMP, MDW, CDM: There are a lot of acronyms in the customer experience tech space that refer to systems that have a part in storing, organizing and activating data. The number one question I hear from organizations trying to deliver data driven CX is some flavor of, "Well I have a <X system> for data", why are you recommending a CDP? How is it different or better than <Y systems> in place?" Answering this is not always straight forward, especially with thousands of vendors offering different flavors of solutions within each category. Sometimes these solutions overlap in functionality, sometimes they work together, and sometimes they have completely different roles to play in driving customer and employee experiences. There is not a canned answer for what is right for any given organization. What is "right" largely depends on the needs, goals and current state of the enterprise (ie. all departments and parties). Give this article a quick read to better understand what these systems do (and don't do) in relation to one another. It's a good first step to sorting through the confusion. A compelling argument for the importance of experiments and the use of Bayesian modeling. The objection/notion of isolated, walled garden experiments is slowly becoming obsolete. As advertisers increasingly leverage open-source or proprietary geo/user-based experimentation on their own internal metrics, the need for incrementality testing as the gold standard for establishing media causality becomes undeniable. Incorporating experimental data into a Bayesian framework should enable more accurate and actionable insights in this regard.

When you build a modeled (look-alike) audience, your processes must be transparent, precisely traceable to the source data, and auditable; in order to pass muster in global regulatory environments moving forward. We have a new study that looks at how Google Gemini handles local queries. Why Gemini? In our previous research, it was shown to be the most capable from a local search perspective of all AI platforms. This is not surprising; Gemini is a Google product and Google is at the center of the local ecosystem. AI Overviews currently don't show much for local queries, but when and if they do, Gemini will power them. In the new study, we've tallied how many results are returned on average for local queries; how many sources are typically cited; and how often Gemini results match the Google 3-Pack. (Hint: not as often as you might think.) Most importantly, we offer insight into the data points you need to optimize in order to make sure your business appears prominently in AI-driven local results.
