Ok...maybe not BREAKING news, but findings from this study suggest that, years after their donation, most donors continue to feel positively about having been a donor, which is consistent with past studies! However… a meaningful minority expressed health or fertility-related concerns. Dr. Holley likes to note that one thing that is really important here is that this study tapped into perceptions about possible health concerns related to the donation. That is, donors may be attributing later health difficulties to the donation, even when there might not be a clear or direct link. This really speaks to the need to have ways to provide ongoing psychoeducation and support to donors, well after the time of the donation.
