Yes the official gab is that this is to streamline and help drug development. The devil resides in "completely”, what does this mean in government FDA terms? Was this really done to aid good drug development or aid the agency’s inspection burden? These and many more questions swirled around FDA real intentions when it does something like this. So in saying it doesn’t have to meet "all” the cGMPs of approval/commercial, the questions are really pertain to which ones must it meet? The answers, are really not given. Classic FDA moves, we will let you know which ones when we have a problem you caused. As to the boiler plate clarification sessions the agency promotes they are nothing more than clarification of it’s side steps it all ways takes to leave wiggle room for its enforcement policy. Yes of course we define the wiggle. Yes we don’t mean you can just mix the stuff in the vat without "any” cGMPs, just not all. Kinda reminds me of you of your golf posse is telling you, you can have some of the beer. You end up drinking one too many and they quickly yell they didn’t tell you you could that many. Disclaimer, this commentary is not meant to imply all FDA guidance is bad, just the ones I pick.

Attented NJx Venture Summit, Princeton, NJ this week. Met some enthusiastic new start up venture entrepreneurs at the summit. There were interesting pitches from these optimistic entrepreneurs. Also met some angel investors, VC, and PE firms looking for interesting opportunities to invest. I liked the agenda, interactions, and networking among the interested parties, both start ups and investors. Engagement was nice and very interactive. Some entrepreneurs raise the funds before starting a venture and some start a venture and then seek funds. There are challenges and opportunities in both approaches. It is important to stay focused on the objective, deliverables, targeted customers or markets, and the outcome.

CinRx Pharma just shared data on its two innovative assets to tackle #obesity at the recent 2024 #ObesityWeek Conference: 🔬 A long-acting GDF-15 analog CIN-109 and a selective PYY3-36 analog CIN-110 ✨Both demonstrated promising tolerability and weight loss in early-stage studies in PI single (-110) and multiple (-109) ascending dose studies. ⏩ From the #strategic horizon, and the expected strong growth rates in this category, more MOAs are needed beyond the GLP1 agonists. As we saw this past year and late last year, the main manufacturers have been peppered with supply, manufacturing, and altogether supply chain issues, which made keeping up with demand quite challenging and does not make for a sustaining business model. Last week, I joined a dynamic conversation hosted by The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia about the region’s thriving life sciences industry. Moderated by Life Sciences Pennsylvania, the discussion focused on how Johnson & Johnson and other companies contribute to and benefit from the region’s innovation and economic development. In addition, I shared how Johnson & Johnson has leveraged the scientific and medical ecosystem in PA to bring the best solutions, products, and services to patients, including:   ·     Globally, we have invested $77B in research and development since 2016 and our North America research and development site is located in suburban Philadelphia. ·     We focus on cell and gene therapies that create personalized solutions for patients and build strategic partnerships to scale the development of complex products. ·     We are an inclusive company that recruits and nurtures talent, providing access to future-forward technology knowledge and skill-building within life sciences and healthcare i.e. artificial intelligence.   There has been significant and ambitious innovation especially over the past 20 years. The Philadelphia region has made exciting contributions to this trend. Where are we going in the next 20 years? I'm excited and hopeful.
