This SHRM article brings to light the challenges employers are facing in California when running pre-employment background checks because of data restrictions. Accurate Background's own Katie Hartley also contributed to this article. 🙂 Recent legal changes in California, stemming from the 2021 All of Us or None — Riverside Chapter v. Hamrick ruling, have imposed significant challenges on the employment screening process.  This ruling, which applies statewide, has led to delays in background checks, particularly in high-volume jurisdictions like Los Angeles County. The restrictions have made it difficult for employers to process screenings quickly, with delays of weeks or even months for some candidates. In some cases, courts are limiting the number of searches that can be performed or requiring in-person searches, which has compounded the issue.
