The mentorship program provides a meaningful framework for action by leaning on the CMI community’s expertise and resources to help pave the way for future content leaders. CMI places emphasis on helping groups in need of greater industry representation.

Mentoring is a reciprocal relationship. Mentors contribute to the personal development of mentees while strengthening their leadership and communication skills. Mentees leverage a mentor’s experience and gain critical knowledge to advance their career. Both lean on each other for encouragement and advice while building their networks.

I was selected by university administrators to be a team coach for the 2021-'22 cohort of IMPACT, an executive leadership program at James Madison University. I was selected by university administrators to be a team coach for the 2021-'22 cohort of IMPACT, an executive leadership program at James Madison University. Since 2003, more than 160 high-achieving leaders have participated in the selective program, the state-of-the-art leadership training and development program at JMU. IMPACT is a yearlong custom program designed to help JMU's leaders develop their skills and, at the same time, grow a leadership culture at the university. It focuses on well-researched core competencies — skills and characteristics such as communication, integrity and service — that mark leadership excellence.

The team that I coached, which included two high-level employees who sit on the President's Cabinet, were tasked with designing and implementing a final project considered beneficial to the university using the tools and curriculum they were exposed to. As a fellow leader, I helped them create coalitions with others in taking an active role in the accomplishment of the university's mission.

The learning objectives for the team members who I coached included:

    Change Leadership
    Communication
    Diversity
    Execution
    Expertise
    People Orientation
    Shared Vision
    Teamwork

Prior to being chosen as a team coach for the 2021-'22 cohort, I was a participant in the IMPACT program during the 2019-'20 academic year.

Brand films are now an intrinsic part of the storytelling toolkit and overall content strategy; they have moved way beyond simply “what brands are doing on social media.” This unique awards program uplifts and celebrates this new wave of marketing storytelling and its journey toward consumer entertainment, while rewarding the brands, agencies and craftspeople leading the way in their fields.

I was personally recruited to be a judge for the 6th annual Brand Film Awards program (previously called Brand Film Festival) to join its esteemed jury panel. The jury is comprised of top creatives from the worlds of advertising, digital, production, PR, films and media. As a judge, I scored against innovation, creativity, effectiveness and results.

The team coordination worked like a machine, with everyone pitching in and collaborating closely to pull together all the key pieces – especially over a weekend. This effort contributes to the core business because it was about responding to the needs of our members and state association affected by the storms and floods.
