Technology can and will bring diverse viewpoints together with the transparent debates needed to come to coordinated solutions. These open technologies today encompass the powerful capabilities in our innovation systems today: open source #AI models, permissionless #blockchain, community #web3tokens, interoperable #metaverses, among the many public goods enabled by emerging technologies. Our social relationships provide the universal values and effective direction for such innovations to impact our world towards positive sum growth. “Plurality” is the central subject of a new book by Microsoft’s internal economist Glen Weyl and Taiwan’s former Minister of Digital Affairs Audrey Tang. That book collects ideas in a donation supported ebook.

Interesting article from the VC firm NFX on Guided #AI Agents, which are agents "capable of executing full workflows at low cost, like creating marketing campaigns, doing sales outreach, or executing HR tasks." The article argues that these agents will "create a new infrastructural backbone for SMBs" and "turbocharge" them. As a #smallbusiness owner who also researches AI, I agree. But the timing is still uncertain.

In an astonishing turn of events, the cost of intelligence is plummeting to nearly zero and becoming omnipresent. GPT-4o mini's latest pricing announcement is just the tip of the iceberg. Recent statements from multiple vendors reveal that competent large language models are not only becoming cheaper but also faster, more accessible, and remarkably better. One jaw-dropping statistic accompanying the GPT-4o mini news is the 99% drop in inference costs since 2022, during which time the models have grown significantly more sophisticated. The open-source community is buzzing with activity, churning out competent models weekly, many of which can run on everyday consumer hardware. New small language models (SLMs) are emerging that can operate efficiently on laptops and even smartphones. Never before have we witnessed such a dramatic and swift transformation in the tech landscape.
