I'm a big believer in the power of Pattern Recognition, and here is a Pattern that I often find myself Recognizing: Things change SLOWLY, and then RAPPIDLY. "Ticket prices are just astronomical right now," said David "5-1" Norman, an industry veteran who has toured with Prince, Green Day, and Alicia Keys. Why? Artists have lost their main revenue stream. Music and album sales Platforms like Spotify and Apple Music don't paint the full picture. No one knows what a certain amount of streams equates to. It's not an accurate depiction of what an artist is actually making. So where has the artist turned to to make up for this loss in revenue? Live Events. They have lifestyles to upkeep, and albums to produce and so they've got to make it back somehow. But who bears the cost? The event promoters and the fans do. Promoters are taking on even more financial risk to front these artist requests and simply to break even they have to charge the fans extortionate amounts of money. I mean the average ticket price for a Taylor Swift concert is over $1000. It becomes a financial planning decision to watch your favorite artist live. The current model is broken. Life of a New YouTuber 🥴 I tried to adjust the aperture on my SONY RX VII camera to achieve a beautiful depth-of-field effect in my video. However, upon reviewing the footage later, I realized it was blurry. It was frustrating, but I eventually reshot the footage without the depth-of-field effect and added a Gaussian Blur effect using Adobe Premiere Pro during editing. While the effect wasn't as clean as I wanted, I'm improving using the pen tool. These technical difficulties caused me to miss my weekly post schedule, but I didn't let them discourage me. I still managed to complete the work within the week. This experience taught me not to be too hard on myself when I miss a deadline due to technical difficulties. What's important to me is creating high-quality, well-written, visually appealing content with music that sets the right tone and adds value to my viewers. For the past 9 months, the Ritual Film Co. and Summit House teams have been grinding alongside the Los Angeles Rams on a massive project. We took a bold bet, deciding we didn't need to rely on a streamer to tell the story of their QB1. Instead, we went all in, determined to forge a direct connection with fans and ignite excitement for the upcoming season. Now, you can watch that bet stream on the NFL Network and Rams digital channels, and let me tell you, it's amazing! But before I go any further, I've got to give major props to Steve Cundari and Matthew Pfeffer for their incredible hustle on this. It took endless weeks of shooting and some seriously insane post-production work in collaboration with NFL Network. Seriously, guys, you should be beaming with pride over what your teams have accomplished. Now, let's talk: Brands, it's time to stop playing the waiting game. You don't have to sit around hoping some third party will swoop in and connect you with your fans. You have the power to tell your own stories, build your own channels, and bring real value to your audience. Forget about those tired conversion tactics or plastering Instagram with digital billboards. After reading it, I thought it was worth questioning the sustainability and originality of the Fox Nation strategy. Here’s why I'm skeptical: #1. Audience Overlap and Content Originality Fox Nation is targeting a demographic that likely already consumes similar content on established networks like Discovery and Hallmark. Unlike CNN+, which tried to merge lifestyle with news using its existing news personalities, Fox Nation is reaching out to Hollywood directly. This move lacks a clear defensive strategy and could dilute the brand's identity, pushing away its core conservative audience. #2. Celebrity-Driven Content The effectiveness of celebrity-led programming on niche streaming services has been mixed at best. While initial subscriber boosts are possible—as seen with Kevin Costner’s "Yellowstone: One-Fifty"—the long-term engagement typically wanes. Quibi’s downfall is a cautionary tale here: people didn't want to see Kevin Hart on Quibi shows with the same vigor they wanted to see Kevin Hart in movies. #3. Economic and Cultural Shifts As Hollywood projects dwindle in number, Fox’s entry might seem timely for cost negotiations with talent. However, aligning with an entity often criticized for misinformation could alienate potential Hollywood collaborators and its audience segments. #4. Subcommunity Focus Learning from Tubi’s success with niche markets, like Black indie cinema, could be beneficial. Fox Nation might find better long-term engagement by identifying and serving conservative subcommunities with targeted content. #5. Sustainability Concerns Without the massive reach of Fox News’ linear channels, Fox Nation’s standalone appeal is questionable. The "Bravo for Conservatives" concept faces stiff competition and lacks the unique content necessary to differentiate it in a crowded market. #6. Strategic Missteps? Fox Nation’s reactive approach—shifting strategies based on short-term successes—suggests a lack of a cohesive long-term plan.
