Here is a short list of some of the key environmental points: 1 - Regulatory Rollbacks Potential reduction or elimination of existing environmental regulations, which could lead to increased emissions and less stringent pollution controls. 2 - Energy Policy Shifts Emphasis on fossil fuel development and reduced support for renewable energy projects, potentially slowing the transition to cleaner energy sources. 3 - Public Land Use Increased access to public lands for resource extraction, which could impact conservation efforts and biodiversity. 4 - Climate Change Stance Possible downplaying of climate change as a priority, affecting national and international climate commitments and initiatives. 5 - Funding Cuts Potential reduction in funding for environmental protection agencies and sustainability programs, limiting resources for conservation and sustainability projects. 6 - Economic Focus Greater focus on economic growth and deregulation, which might prioritize short-term economic gains over long-term environmental sustainability. Overall, if implemented, Project 2025 would likely lead to significant setbacks in the U.S. sustainability efforts, affecting everything from renewable energy adoption to environmental justice and regulatory integrity. Check out the important brief by Janet Ranganathan from the World Resources Institute on "E-liabilities vs. GHG Protocol Approaches to Emissions Reporting: What you Need to Know". It's a careful and well reasoned analysis and moves beyond the "either/or" tone of some of the dialogue to date. We need multiple tools in our #GHGaccountingtoolbox - including balance sheet carbon accounting - to get the job done. The critical importance of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) Protocol is not lessened by the existence of alternative approaches to emissions reporting. Over the 3+ years that #SB253 made its way through a highly-contested legislative process, two hallmarks of the policy were reporting in conformance with the #GHGProtocol and the inclusion of #scope3. We required the use of the GHG Protocol because it is the global leading standard and the throughput across all emerging mandatory reporting regimes. It has not only stood the test of time but it has continued to develop to meet the needs of a rapidly changing corporate reporting landscape. Excited to share my reflections on #ClimateWeekNYC. This year’s theme was “It’s Time.” I couldn’t agree more. ⏳ Here are some key takeaways: - Collaboration is essential for driving meaningful change. Partnerships between private sector, public sector, and non-profits, such as the work we support through Corporate Leaders Groups Europe, are crucial for accelerating climate action. 🤝 - Support solutions available today, while investing in the solutions of tomorrow. Organizations like Project Drawdown and Tradewater show that we can focus on non-CO2 gases like #methane as a high-leverage emergency brake on climate. 🌎 - Governments and the private sector agree that it’s imperative to create ways for companies to engage with the voluntary carbon market to scale high-impact, high-integrity climate solutions. Companies can maximize their sustainability budgets and leverage financing to create value by learning from experienced orgs, which is why Workday and Patch teamed up to share a playbook for Chief #Sustainability Officers. 📔 - Upskilling the workforce for a green economy is critical. My friend and colleague Carrie Varoquiers (Chief Philanthropy Officer), who leads our Workday Foundation, shared how investing in training and development for clean energy jobs will be key to a successful transition. 🧑‍💻 At Workday, we’ll continue to advance climate action, fund innovation to deliver promising technologies, build the workforce needed for a clean energy transition, and improve supply chain transparency for better emissions and climate data. Wrapping Up #SanFranciscoClimateWeek Reflecting last week's events full of learning, inspiration and meaningful interactions which left me energized for the gigantic task ahead. The week was a mosaic of ideas, solutions, and shared visions for a sustainable future. I managed to attend a handful of events (out of the 300+ on offer), which stood out not only for their content but also for their potential impact on our planet’s health. My short summary as follows: ⛰ Puro.earth #CDRSummit had a stellar speaker line-up and very relevant content. Nikki Batchelor, Executive Director of XPRIZE shared firsthand updates on the progress towards #GettingtoGigatonne scale carbon removals through the XPRIZE #Top100. Full report out this week! Her message that these innovative scalable solutions are within our grasp but do rely on proper funding of the trailblazer startups making it possible. We heard from key buyers and sellers, amazing implementation projects, as well as Alexia Kelly giving her insights on the converging standards work through The Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM). 🛢 Charm Industrial hosted a visit of their R&D site, with an interesting take on #pyrolysis focusing on delivering #BioOil instead of #Biochar for permanent storage in depleted reservoirs 🚁 Rain's session on Friday morning at their landmark site in Alameda showcased a groundbreaking approach to combating wildfires using #AutonomousHelicopters. The importance of this technology cannot be overstated – wildfires are not only a direct threat to ecosystems and communities but also a significant contributor to climate change. If we were to consider CO2 emissions from wildfires as a country, it would come as number 2-4 in line depending on the year! The ability to rapidly and autonomously respond to these disasters could be a game-changer in our efforts to preserve #airquality and combat #globalwarming. 🌀 Visiting AirMyne was both fun and educational. Their #DirectAirCapture technology is designed to sidestep common barriers to scaling up such as high costs and energy requirements. With features like low-temperature thermal processes and the use of low-cost, easily sourced materials, AirMyne is paving the way for scalable #DAC. 🏭 Lastly, the visit to ALL Power Labs in Berkeley was truly enlightening, as another testament to the tremendous benefits and scaling potential of #biochar as a mature #CDR technology which not only binds biomass carbon permanently, but also acts as a #NegativePrimer removing further carbon from the air while it improves soil fertility & water retention, plays a crucial role in enhancing soil microbiome resilience and activity - something #APL's #BiomassGasification technology has already proven at numerous project sites the world over. It’s clear that #biochar will be a cornerstone in the quest for #SustainableAgriculture and #CarbonManagement. There was certainly a lot more out there, do share your favorites! #SFClimateWeek

The Commonwealth Bank will stop financing fossil fuel companies that aren’t compliant with the Paris climate goals by the end of this year. This is a bold step and an effective measure in the finance sector towards decarbonization roadmap. You can't manage what you can't measure! Along with my fellow iMasons Climate Accord Governing Body members, I'm excited to support this open letter to the industry to bring #transparency to #sustainability and #Scope3 emissions. In today's environment, most products don't disclose their embodied emissions at point of purchase. Companies have to backsolve for impact using imperfect modeled estimates, which makes it difficult for teams to make real-time product selection decisions in pursuit of #NetZero. This letter calls for broader adoption of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Think of an #EPD like a "nutrition label" for product carbon emissions. If the digital infrastructure industry is to stick to its "carbon diet", we need to be able to count our "carbon calories" !

Dear friends and colleagues, With less than three weeks to #ClimateWeekNYC, it's important to reflect on the concept of double materiality—a critical aspect of #sustainability that is gaining significant attention within our industry. Traditionally, materiality in financial reporting has been about disclosing information that is financially significant to a company. However, #DoubleMateriality expands this by requiring organizations to also consider the material impact of their operations on the environment and society. This concept pushes financial decision-makers to account for both "outside-in" materiality (how environmental and social factors affect the business) and "inside-out" materiality (how the business impacts the environment and communities). Regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in the EU drive this shift, requiring companies to report on these dual impacts. This approach marks a fundamental change in how #ESG considerations are integrated into business practices, evolving from an afterthought to a central pillar of product development and corporate reporting. This is a terrific initiative from The White House! To me, it also demonstrates the momentum behind adaptation/resilience as an investment theme, as pioneered by organizations like Tailwind Climate and Climate Bonds Initiative. It feels like we're in the end-stage of the "Taxonomy Phase" of adaptation/resilience and about to enter the "Deployment Phase" - a welcome development in that it suggests more capital (both public and private) will be allocated to climate-proofing in the coming months. This is a faster evolution than that experienced in the mitigation space, which suggests that adaptation-heads in government (and outside) have learned the tortured lessons of the net-zero push of 2015-2022. In his excellent statement defending the critical role of carbon markets in driving climate action, Dr Will Turner makes a number of critical points, namely: that offsets do not and must not pre-empt direct action and that eliminating them exacerbates the challenges Global South communities have financing mitigation and essential work to make their communities more resilient.
