The big California utilities SCE, SDGE, and PGE are expected to increase their rates by about 8.5% in 2025. SCE increased its rates by 17% in 2022 and another 7.1% in 2024. This is a cumulative increase of 36% in 3 years! That is exactly why I am so obsessed with helping businesses optimize their energy usage. 📣 Just announced: The FINAL funding guidelines for the California Air Resources Board’s F-gas Reduction Incentive Program (FRIP) are now available! FRIP will provide financial #incentives to support commercial and industrial end-user transition to climate-friendly refrigerants. We will begin accepting applications on October 14, but the web portal will open in advance to allow applicants to prepare their submissions.    This is a first-come, first-served program, so review the funding guidelines now and prepare to apply as soon as the application window opens. June Is National Safety Month Since 1996, the National Safety Council has been providing safety resources every year to highlight June as National Safety Month, including a dedicated topic for each week. Recently the focus was on Roadway Safety. I posted a question on Southern California Edison (SCE)'s internal chat platform at work and got a lot of great feedback on what people do to stay focused and safe. Here are two helpful comments from SCE team members on how to safely share the road with those who drive large trucks: Laura Navar, Energy Delivery and Distribution Specialist: “My husband was a truck driver for over 30 years. If you are not aware how hard it is to stop a big rig, it is extremely hard, please be mindful. Do not try to beat the truck driver getting on and off the freeway. Be courteous and let them in. I see it happen all the time and that is risking lives. It's not worth it, so please be patient.” Marisa Soto, Executive Assistant: “A family member who once drove large trucks shared this advice with me: 'If my side mirror isn't in your view, then you're not in mine.' Energy Trust of Oregon's Restaurant Study: https://lnkd.in/gG_r6URi Energy Trust of Oregon is an independent nonprofit that works closely with utilities, community-based organizations, local governments and customers to save energy. They offer cash incentives, resources, and guidance on what improvements are right for residential and business customers. Their Restaurant Study will visit independent non-franchised restaurants and meet with owners to learn about what services and equipment could help them reduce operating costs. Participating restaurant owners will get paid $250 for their time (approximately 2 hours). Energy Trust understands that restaurants have high operating costs and are looking to learn more about these businesses. If the owner's preferred language is not English, they have partners who speak multiple languages and can connect more language partners to the owners as well. The study includes two parts: 1) gather information about the energy-using cooking and building equipment (such as age and how well it works) and 2) interview restaurant owners about the business, concerns, needs, and energy-related decision-making processes. #Surveying #CustomerEngagement #Utilities #CustomerFeedback #Marketing #Communication #CustomerExperience #EnergyEfficiency

California ISO has proposed a new interconnection process to expedite the integration of renewable energy projects into the grid, drawing support from major stakeholders such as Pacific Gas and Electric Company, Southern California Edison (SCE), and the California Public Utilities Commission. The proposal aims to align the interconnection process with California's long-term energy plans, addressing the state's growing renewable energy needs. It includes provisions to prioritize projects in areas with available transmission capacity, reimbursing developers for necessary network upgrades, while projects in "merchant" zones with less capacity would bear the upgrade costs. The proposal has received pushback from some stakeholders claiming that the commercial interest scoring criteria could unfairly favor utility-owned projects over independent ones. Supporters like PG&E defend the criteria, stating it ensures only the most viable projects proceed. The proposal allows for limiting the influence of load-serving entities on the selection process to prevent unfair advantages. THis is so nice! According to new data released by the California Energy Commission (CEC), in 2022, nearly 61% of California's energy came from NON-FOSSIL FUEL sources. 39% of the state's energy was generated from renewable sources, highlighting the substantial progress in incorporating solar, wind, and other renewables into the energy mix. Solar energy, has played a pivotal role in this transition. With abundant sunshine, California has leveraged solar power to become a leading state in solar energy production. The widespread adoption of solar panels has significantly contributed to the state's renewable energy output. Looking ahead, microgrids or local sustainable power plants, represent the next big step in revolutionizing California's energy landscape. By enabling localized energy production and distribution, microgrids enhance energy resilience and reliability. They can operate independently of the central grid, providing critical power during outages and emergencies. Microgrids can integrate various renewable energy sources, including solar, to create a flexible and sustainable energy system. Many fellow solar industry leaders reading this article will groan about those few “bad apples,” dishonest sales people and lead generators ruining it for everybody else. They are not wrong, but there’s more to it. Throughout my solar career I have had hundreds of conversations about corporate integrity and compliance. With all of my work focusing on revenue generation, sales and marketing you would be correct in assuming that most of these talks have focused on setting expectations for compliance and building training and monitoring programs to ensure ethical behavior among sales and marketing staff. Setting up these programs and systems is a corporate responsibility, and if they are designed correctly and executed vigorously, they will weed out most bad apples and help build a culture that will focus on doing right by the customer. I’ve also been known to oppose or kill corporate initiatives in the past that would have been good for business (certainly in the short run) in order to build a solid brand and earn a great reputation/reviews. My point is that, it’s true that we as leaders cannot directly control conversations in the home, but if we build companies that drive a cultural, earnest desire to do right by the customer we should do great in Nevada as well as anywhere else!

Attention California businesses! Big changes might be in store for the state's community solar program. Here's what you need to know: 📄 The California Public Utilities Commission has issued a Proposed Decision (PD) that, if approved, will have drastic consequences. 🔌 Siding with utilities, the PD favors a community solar program based on existing wholesale-market distributed energy programs, despite clear evidence these programs don't work. ☀️ The PD rejects the proposed Net Value Billing Tariff that would've generated 8 GW of community solar paired with battery energy storage and provided benefits to hundreds of thousands of households. Brace for Impact: California Gas Prices to Increase in 2025 🚨⛽️ “The recent 2024 legislative and regulatory actions taken by California could result in a cumulative increase in the price of regular grade gasoline for the California consumer of $0.55 to $0.898 a gallon in 2025. For premium grades, the estimated range of increase could be $0.95 to $1.15 a gallon. And that does not include any increases in crude oil prices and the price of wholesale gasoline. Based on the average number of miles driven in California of 12,5249 and California’s average miles per gallon of 31 mpg, California regulatory and legislative actions could conservatively cost the California consumer an extra $222.00 to $449.00 a year for regular grade fuel, more for premium. To compensate for the expected increases in retail gasoline prices, the average Californian driving an internal combustion vehicle will have to earn an additional $600.00 to $1,000.00 a year in pre-tax income to “break even” with 2024 prices, depending on the grade of gas they purchase.” #California #Gas #LCFS https://lnkd.in/g6UY4rqB
