Beyond skills like organization and communication, several underrated qualities can significantly enhance an administrative assistant’s effectiveness. #Hiringmanagers and organizations would do well to recognize and value the following attributes during the hiring and evaluation processes: ✔️Adaptability and Flexibility - An administrative assistant who can quickly shift gears when priorities change, handle unexpected challenges with composure, and adjust to different working styles of team members is highly valuable, particularly in a fast-paced work environment. This flexibility ensures smooth operations even under stress or during unforeseen circumstances. ✔️Proactive Problem-Solving – Often the first line of defense against potential issues, those who can anticipate problems and offer solutions proactively instead of simply reacting to issues as they arise can be a significant asset. This involves thinking ahead, planning for contingencies, and always being ready with a backup plan. ✔️Tech Savviness - In an increasingly digital world, being tech-savvy is no longer just a bonus but a necessity. Those who are adept with the latest office technology, software, and tools can improve efficiency and productivity. This includes proficiency in standard office software and adaptability to new digital tools and platforms that the company may adopt. ✔️Emotional Intelligence - The ability to understand and manage their emotions and those of others, is vital. An administrative assistant with high emotional intelligence can better handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically, fostering a positive work environment. This skill is crucial for managing conflicts, understanding team dynamics, and building solid organizational relationships. ✔️Resourcefulness and Creativity - The ability to think creatively and be resourceful is often underrated, as those who can develop innovative solutions to everyday problems, find ways to do more with less, and navigate through limited resources can contribute to the team’s success.

I understand "SOP," but do your people understand "SOS?" To take someone who has simply not hit their numbers, has simply not "jelled" with other staff, who might be older and trying to keep up with an ever-changing technological workplace, or similar, and subject them to potential humiliation either via SOP or fellow staff just will NEVER bode well for potential physical and/or legal retaliation against you or your company. Also, do you staff understand how this might also extend to customers, clients, patients, residents, tenants, et al? The same rule applies.
