Can FRIP Funding be used for Climate Vulnerability Assessments (CVAs)? A Climate Vulnerability Assessment aligns with FRIAA’s Forest Resource Improvement Program (FRIP) mandates and legacy project themes and opportunities for action. Furthermore, a CVA provides multi-level benefits to those who choose to complete one. Until CVAs become mandatory for the Alberta Forest Industry, this type of project could be applied for under the regular FRIP funding stream making now a perfect time to consider incorporating one into your forest management. Forsite has participated in and managed many FRIP projects. We understand the level of reporting required throughout the project’s lifetime and how to create a proposal that will get the green light. 📅 The Role of Seasonal Calendars and Hazard Timelines in Anticipatory Action ☀ 🌧 🌾 Working with local communities and stakeholders to develop crisis calendars is a powerful way to inform and strengthen Anticipatory Action Plans and Anticipatory Actions. 💡 These tools provide invaluable insights into the timing of critical agricultural and climate patterns, identifying key windows for opportunity to mitigate the impacts of hazards like droughts and floods. 📊 The example here illustrates how we work with local data to capture out events such as planting, harvest, and lean seasons but also livelihood and vulnerability factors. By aligning these with expected climate patterns and hazard occurrence, we’re able to identify “readiness activities” and “anticipatory action” triggers - initiating actions, such as disseminating early warning information or distributing supplementary fodder and cash, when they will have the greatest impact. 🔎 Right now, our team and partners in #Madagascar are currently exploring alternative formats for crisis calendars. This participatory approach not only improves the way we prepare for hazardous events, but also fosters ownership, ensuring that anticipatory actions are timely and relevant. Only 44 Nationally Determined Contributions (#NDCs) specifically mention just transition. This act empowers forest dwellers to claim their customary and traditional rights on forest land and resources through Individual Forest Rights (IFR), Community Rights (CR), and Community Forest Resources Rights (CFRR). 🔍 The Challenge: Navigating the Claim-Making Process 🔍 Despite the FRA, the intricacies involved in the claim-making process posed a major challenge for these marginalized communities. 💡 PRADAN: Facilitating Forest Rights-Claiming Process 💡 Professional Assistance For Development Action (PRADAN), one of India’s leading NGOs, has been facilitating the forest rights-claiming process in Odisha, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. 📢 New report just released by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on the 'State of Global Water Resources 2023'. The WMO secretary general, Celeste Saulo, says that “water is the canary in the coalmine of climate change”, as noted in an article just published in The Guardian: https://lnkd.in/e3UpSVdR The report highlights 👉 the severe stress on global water supplies, with five consecutive years of below-normal river flows and reservoir inflows; 👉 that 2023 was the hottest year on record; and 👉 it features a global dataset of hydrological variables to support early warning systems for water-related hazards.
