Here's how you can stay positive and motivated as a recruiter dealing with tight deadlines.
As an outside/3rd Party recruiter, the first thing that is critical is to speak to each client and understand what is... - Urgent & Important and with a collaborative hiring manager - These are your A needs and where you need to spend 75-80% of your time Everything else is on an "as available" basis and you need to manage client expectations as such. Let them know what has to happen to make them an A order/client and if/when they get there, you will adjust your workload accordingly Remember that everytime you say... YES to something, You're saying NO to something else

How can you build a talent pipeline that prioritizes quality and speed?
The challenge here is that unless a recruiter or TA professional has spent a few years "kissing toads" they aren't going to be able to "quickly" assess what is a princess or prince. It takes time to build that skill. Can you use assessment tools, personality tests, reference checks, etc.? Sure - and you should. But at the end of the day, nothing beats overall experience that comes from interviewing candidates for similar roles over, over and over again for months and years to build on one's knowledge.

How can you build a talent pipeline that prioritizes quality and speed?
As I read this, the phrase that keeps going through my head is the old adage of... Fast Good Cheap You can only have two of these The challenge with the question is that most want it to have quality and get it quickly, but they don't want to pay for it. And in the talent acquisition world, there's no such thing as the scratch and dent store. Building a solid pipeline of candidates takes time, patience, perseverance, investment of capital, and as Jay Lucas said in his reply, the necessity to put a stake in the ground and build within a niche market.

What's the best way to explain a career gap during an interview?
Simple answer - OWN IT! Whatever the drivers for taking a step away from the day-to-day grind of a job, you made the decision to do just that. Care for children? Care of an ailing family member? Needed a mental break? Tour Italy? Help start a side gig with a friend? Deal with some personal "challenges?" Whatever the reason, you made that decision Do not apologize for it! Regardless of the reason being personal or professional, what did you learn? How did it make you better? How did it prepare you to be a stronger asset to your next company/position? In an interview situation, most people are more interested in hearing about how you came to this decision and how it has helped form a better you.
