Some thoughts from 3 months of being a solo CPA and running my own small business: (1) You eat what you hunt. It is simple, you either make money by getting out there, or you do not make money. This provides extensive clarity on what is important, what is not. (2) The CPA offseason is not relaxing. You have to generate income, or the business fails. There is no Partner giving me kuddos for doing CPE, helping on small projects, taking PTO, helping around the office, and smiling. It's just me, and that means little time off for Holiday's ahead. Maybe next year I will have time to save in advance! 😅 (3) Time is bittersweet. In one sense, I feel so free now. My life, my choices. But its a double-edged sword. If I take a non-revenue-producing meeting at 10am, and then decide to casually get lunch afterwards, and then help with the kiddos at 1pm, I may not do any revenue producing work till 2pm. 3 Hours isn't much time to generate revenue. 😮 But on the positive side: 😁 (4) The vision of my future is more clear than it has ever been before. I know better what I want to build. I am happier with my outcomes because I'm 100% responsible to choosing them. The guessing of life is sort-of gone, its either get out there and do it, or it won't happen. Building a business isn't easy, but so far the rewards have been 100-fold! #DanieltheCPA
LOVE THIS - “I am happier with my outcomes because I'm 100% responsible to choosing them”
I feel all of these. On 3 just today I had a quick lunch with my gal and near the end I said, I better hurry back or I won't have time to get work done and the boss will be pissed.....
Eat what you hunt is great....but you still need to hit something. Most hunters walk around aimlessly in the wilderness and are glorified hikers with too much gear. :)
I feel like this needs to be shared with any entrepreneur. The rewards are worth the initial struggle.
It's inspiring to hear that you have a clear vision for your future and are taking ownership of your outcomes. Building a business is indeed not easy, but your positive attitude and determination are admirable. Best of luck to you in your endeavors!
