Engineering management and oversight of the certification process for servo motors with targeted application in hazardous dust environments. UL (North America), ATEX (Europe), and IECEx (International) certification reviews design and manufacturing tolerance along with performance for motors that may be used in applications where there is a continuous presence of dust that may be flammable or explosive.

Certain metal (conductive) dusts, coal dust, and grain dust contain high amounts of energy that can be rapidly released when heated in a suitable mixture with an oxygen source (air born). Certified motors are tested to maintain rated temperatures during operation. Dimensional tolerances are maintained in engineering and manufacturing to totally exclude dust from entering the motor an (potential) uncontrolled heat sources (bearings).

Following certification, Elwood conducts routine internal audits of all processes affecting the sale and realization of explosion proof motors. These reviews assure that all controls are in place and functioning properly. Additionally, annual audits are conducted by UL and ATEX/IECEx notified bodies to validate conformance.
