Why the fight for the fastest inference will influence the future of AI. „Today, Cerebras, SambaNova, and Groq are all delivering over 1,000 tokens per second, and the “token wars” have revved up considerably. A quick pitchbook search reveals that in 2024, Massachusetts based companies raised almost 30% of all VC dollars in climatetech/cleantech in the US, outperforming any other US state. The Commonwealth aims to invest $1.3B to cement Massachusetts’ position as the leading climate innovation lab for the world. The administration is right to stress that - next to addressing our greatest global challenge – this will catalyze $16.3B of economic benefits and create 6670 jobs: https://lnkd.in/eB3Vx72K The initiative lists ‘ecosystem builders’ as a key part of Massachusetts’ secret sauce, and I couldn’t agree more. Massachusetts in 2024 is home to the most climate tech startups per capita in the country. They thrive at institutions like MIT and Greentown Labs, turning big ideas into tangible solutions. But we struggle to keep them here. States from coast to coast are wooing away entrepreneurs and employers. These places facilitate demonstration programs, connect companies to trained workers, and provide access to real estate for manufacturing. This is a good and important read on #FOAK projects and the ClimateTech Valley of Death, with good insight from some very sharp investors. One often overlooks aspect of this challenge is WHO will build these early commercial projects that are smaller and don't often appeal to top tier EPCs. As a proud partner of UGIH, a big shout-out to Massamba Thioye and the team for their impactful work! 🔹 Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) is playing a pivotal role in convening the community to harness blockchain technology in the fight against the climate crisis. Their leadership is invaluable. As a GBBC observer, I am a big fan of the great work led by Sandra Ro 🇺🇦, Arry Y., Emma Joyce and other GBBC leaders! 🔹 SustainableIT.org launched the AI Sustainability Principles, setting a new standard for responsible AI in the ICT industry and beyond. This is a crucial step toward aligning AI with sustainable goals. I see tremendous synergies and potential in our partnership as we work together to drive the adoption of the principles through the Responsible AI Pledge. I can't wait to advance this together with Rick Pastore, Ann Rosenberg, Ben Christensen and many others in the future. If you're doing small scale bitcoin mining, and want to hitch a ride on a Maserati, this post if for you. It's also for you if you're interested in my research-based assessment of where I see the future of Bitcoin mining going. First, what do big bitcoin mining companies have that smaller ones usually lack? - access to capital markets,  - networks and  - bulk purchasing power and - process/technical innovation. But what do small bitcoin mining companies, that is scarcer for big companies?  - Geographically dispersed sites - local jurisdictional knowledge, - direct relationships with power providers,  - domain knowledge, eg: niche energy-harvesting applications So it makes sense to cooperate, as Marathon and Nodalpower recently discovered when they combined their relative strengths to move each company ahead in a way they could not have easily achieved alone. Each partnership like this also helps the whole Bitcoin ecosystem - get more geographically decentralized - Change its narrative around bitcoin and the environment (these projects are almost always renewable) Outside the bitcoin ecosystem, large companies normally thinks they can do it all themselves. In bitcoin tho, everyone thinks like a startup disrupter As such, larger Bitcoin mining companies cooperate with other large companies that another industry would deem a competitor; small companies that another industry would deem irrelevant. There are already many more of these collaborations in the wings, and its my mission to help more of these types of collaborations get off the ground. If you’re a small mining company, reach out, and I'll see if you could be solving some problems for a bigger player, while gaining access to some of their valuable resources. And well done again to NodalPower and MARA for providing a solid example of how this type of collaboration can work

Is #quantumcomputing being ignored by #venturecapital and M&A targets?According to #siliconvalley lawyers, Louis Lehot and André Thiollier, it should not. In their study they show that in 2022, nearly 5,000 patents were granted in quantum technology, with the US leading at 37% of the global total. By January 2024, the US had issued close to 16,000 patents in quantum technology, positioning itself at the forefront of this groundbreaking field. But quantum computing, they say, will also have its legal challenges. It will profoundly disrupt the legal system once it imports large scales efficiencies and speeds to processes, surpassing the capabilities of human intelligence, including that of the very best lawyers. Announcing SolidSky - GHG-to-Value for Legacy Petrochemicals 🚀 SolidSky has been accepted into Berkeley Lab's Cradle to Commerce Accelerator program funded by DOE Office of Technology Transitions for emerging climatetech startups. Making it into the cohort secures several benefits, including a CRADA to validate the technology in an industry-relevant form factor that will make industry partnerships easier to achieve. ✍ I've been quietly working on SolidSky for a year now, and it started with a thesis: the transition to net-zero requires detaching from the carbon markets and finding economical ways to convert carbon to value, without assuming that electricity prices will arbitrarily converge to 0. With that in mind, I sought out novel methods for utilizing CO2 in ways that would be beneficial to legacy industry, and ultimately stumbled upon the tech that would become SolidSky. 📈 The last few months have been an absolute whirlwind. A cofounder breakup, 5 grant applications, licensing, 547 LinkedIn applicants for my first team roles and 54 interviews to fill them, and the endless cycle of realizing that I have no idea what I'm doing. I'm feeling better about the not knowing part, largely thanks to the incredible team I have been able to form: it is entirely thanks to them I am able to move forward with opportunities like this. This all started with Lucian Sweitzer taking my meeting after a cold email outreach and suggesting I pitch writing this technology into the C2C program back in 2023, and here we are on the other side. 🏭 SolidSky is on a mission to develop catalysts and reactor systems that unlock GHG-to-Value for legacy petrochemical facilities. Our novel catalysts allow for the conversion of CO2 with basic petrochemical feedstocks to create precursor chemicals at costs well below market rates thanks purely to improved energy efficiency, without the needs for carbon credits or tax incentives. Put simply, SolidSky's method of making petrochemicals is less energy intensive than any other method out there, making adoption of carbon capture and utilization systems less daunting.
