Utility company's proposal to rat out hidden marijuana operations to police raises privacy concerns. BANGOR, Maine (AP) — Operators of illegal marijuana grow enterprises hidden inside rural homes in Maine don’t have to worry much about prying neighbors. But their staggering electric bills may give rise to a new snitch. An electric utility made an unusual proposal to help law enforcement target these illicit operations, which are being investigated for ties to transnational crime. Critics, however, worry the move would violate customers’ privacy. More than a dozen states that legalized marijuana have seen a spike in illegal marijuana grow operations that utilize massive amounts of electricity. And Maine’s Versant Power has been receiving subpoenas — sometimes for 50 locations at a time — from law enforcement, said Arrian Myrick-Stockdell, corporate counsel. It’d be far more efficient, he suggested to utility regulators, to flip the script and allow electric utilities to report their suspicions to law enforcement. “Versant has a very high success rate in being able to identify these locations, but we have no ability to communicate with law enforcement proactively,” Myrick-Stockdell told commissioners. The proposal, to be deliberated next week by the Maine Public Utilities Commission, is being criticized by consumer privacy advocates and others who think the utility is veering outside its lane. The nonprofit Electronic Privacy Information Center believes such a regulatory rule would be unconstitutional because the electric utility would be allowed to provide private information about consumers with “no probable cause, no warrant, no judicial review,” Alan Butler, the group’s executive director, told The Associated Press. #cannabiscultivation #electricity #utilty Published Aug 06, 2024 https://lnkd.in/g_PsfEup

As promised.... Cannabis treasury cycle internal control "hack"/tool is attached. Although not 100% inclusive of all possible controls, for a discussion of the critical elements of the treasury cycle please see: https://lnkd.in/gMXc9xf5 Treasury cycle is primarily comprised of equity capital & debt financing activities, and those involved with "investing" of "idle" funds. We're trying to properly account for transactions involved with borrowing money, investor funding proceeds, debt service, ownership distributions, and the reported values of invested corporate funds. Before soliciting cannabis investors & commercial lending sources, best to ensure a strong internal control environment is fully functioning. Should you be soliciting "traditional" funding sources, they will be performing their own underwriting due diligence to assess your controls. This is also why it's advantageous to engage a competent cannabis CFO services provider to help build, manage & monitor your treasury cycle internal controls. #cannabisinternalcontrols #cannabisriskmanagement #cannabisaccounting #cannabisfinancialreporting #cannabiscfo #cannabisbanking #cannabisfinance #cannabisinvestors #cannabiscapitalmanagement

CBDs Updates During a hearing on April 11th, 2024 before the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, Dr. Califf (FDA Commissioner) stated: "the use of CBD raises safety concerns, especially with long-term use. Studies have shown evidence of liver toxicity, interactions with certain medications, and possible harm to the male reproductive system. CBD exposure is particularly concerning for children and during pregnancy." To my point, the definition of food in the law is: " (1) articles used for food or drink for man or other animals, (2) chewing gum, and (3) articles used for components of any such article. Dietary supplements are food, based on its legal definition. The definition of drug, according to the same legal source, is: "(A) articles recognized in the official United States Pharmacopoeia, official Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, or official National Formulary, or any supplement to any of them; and (B) articles intended for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease in man or other animals; and (C) articles (other than food) intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of man or other animals; and (D) articles intended for use as a component of any article specified in clause (A), (B), or (C)." Except for option (C) in the drug definition, where some foods may "affect the structure or any function of the body", any article that is a drug cannot be food. The use of CBDs that contain less than 0.3% of Delta-9 may contain significant concentrations of Delta-8 or Delta-10 or something else not yet discovered as a result of the processing of the hemp. Why companies find extremely difficult, challenging or complex the selling of coffee, breads and some snacks, just to mention a few products, that may contain acrylamide (which is a know carcinogenic substance) as a result of their heating processes of such products? Simply because it's our responsibility to process foods in a safe way. Even though hemp is food (2018 Farm Bill), the processing of hemp with less than 0.3% Delta-9 may cause the creation/formation of other toxic substances that cause the illnesses described by Dr. Califf in the hearing mentioned above. As in the acrylamide case, any CBD that contains toxic substances is, by default, adulterated. As a reminder, "adulteration" is a prohibited act in the law. Our jobs is to ensure that the manufacture, process, storage, transport of food (For man and other animals), growing of plants and raising animals is performed in a SAFE and CLEAN manner. Any thoughts? #sfsc #fda #CBD #adulteration https://lnkd.in/gFq5xGeZ
