Over the last several months, our team has been diligently working through our requirements, with cybersecurity consistently at the forefront of discussions. ⭐️ One critical aspect that has come up repeatedly is the level of risk we’re willing to accept. A key conversation within industry has been SOCOM’s move towards achieving a NIST score of 110—a very attainable goal that is also becoming a crucial requirement. ⭐️ I wouldn’t be surprised if SOCOM eventually communicates that a NIST score of 110 will become mandatory. Given this, I strongly encourage industry leaders to assess where they currently stand, determine their position on the cybersecurity spectrum, and make the necessary investments to improve their score while mitigating risks. 👀 In the near future, I anticipate that having a NIST score of 110 will be a firm requirement to do business with the tip of the spear. For reference, FAR 52.204-21 and the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) 252.204-7012 highlight the need for cybersecurity measures aligned with NIST 800-171, pushing contractors toward the 110 score to ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity standards. #investinsecurity #investinus #tipofthespear

🚤 Enhancing Sailor Readiness with Advanced Training 🚤 The Center for Security Forces (CENSECFOR) has successfully piloted Phase II of the Basic Small Craft Operator (BSCO) course, held at Learning Site Little Creek in Virginia Beach, VA! This hands-on course provides Sailors with the essential skills and knowledge needed for craft-specific qualifications, strengthening fleet readiness and safety. "Revisions to the course schedule have greatly improved training effectiveness, allowing Sailors to apply classroom concepts in real-world environments much sooner," said David Postupack, Small Boat Program Manager at CENSECFOR. BSCO Phase I covers foundational seamanship, navigation, and boat handling, while Phase II builds on these skills through intensive lab and ocean training. Graduates of both phases are set to test for the Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels certification, a key qualification for Navy small craft operators. Future plans include expanding small boat training to intermediate and advanced courses, tailored to evolving fleet requirements, with a focus on reducing incidents and enhancing Sailor proficiency in diverse maritime environments. #USNavy #Training #SecurityForces #SailorDevelopment #FleetReadiness

Leadership Fail: thinking that the mental health (which includes morale) of the team is someone else's job. What I love about this article is that the Commanding Officer pulled out all the stops to make sure his crew's morale & mental health were taken care of during 9 months of continuous threat (no spoiler alerts here). We often refer people to EAP for things that are impacting the mental health when leaders have complete control over making people feel valuable. And it takes being proactive - both strategically and operationally. We can't sit in our office waiting for someone having a stress breakdown to come in when all we have to do is take a walk in the hallways. Sending a "kudos" email isn't enough - the best social reenforcement (empirically proven) is verbal & physical contact...and maybe a cookie.

In June the United States Air Force renewed 387 VRSG licenses and five Terrain Tools licenses for continued use in the A-10 Full Mission Trainer (FMT). VRSG has supported A-10 training with the USAF since 2001, making this one of our longest running partnerships. VRSG provides high-resolution out-the-window and sensor visuals for FMTs located at ten training sites across the United States. The FMT’s visual system, in the process of being upgraded by Immersive Display Solutions, Inc (IDSI), renders VRSG terrain in high-resolution for out-the-window views; while other visual channels drive VRSG sensor views for systems including the A-10 Maverick missile and Sniper Advanced Targeting Pod (ATP). The A-10 FMT consists of a high-fidelity replica of an A-10 aircraft cockpit, an Instructor Operator Station (IOS), a Hand-on-Throttle and Stick Trainer (HOTAS), and Brief/De-Brief System that together provide trainees initial and ongoing training for flight, mission, and tactics. Users of the A-10 FMT can also train in a common virtual world with users of the MQ-9 MJAT trainer, Joint Terminal Control Training and Rehearsal System (JTC TRS), and Air National Guard F-16 Mission Tactics Trainer, as all use VRSG terrain and models. These VRSG license renewals will enable pilots to continue training using MVRsimulation’s round-earth 3D terrain that covers most of the world: Continental USA plus AK and HI (CONUS ++), and the continents of Africa, Asia, Australia and Oceania, Europe, North America, and South America; including multiple geospecific ultra-high resolution insets. As with all software maintenance licenses, users can download and use new terrain datasets and 3D models and culture as they are added to the VRSG library at no additional cost. Using the Terrain Tools licenses, users will also be able to turn their own geospatial data into real-time 3D terrain to render in VRSG. SOCOM recognized a need for a comprehensive, secure, and user-friendly marketplace where SOCOM units can easily explore, select, purchase, and manage approved training from reputable vendors. Speed, convenience, and flexibility are the three core principles of this simplified procurement process. SOCOM requires an Amazon-like platform with automated procurement features that can be easily changed and adapted to meet evolving mission requirements. This single mission-enabled platform will allow users to acquire the necessary training needs of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), Theater Special Operations Commands (TSOCs), Special Missions Units (SMUs), and SOCOM service components. We leveraged a deep understanding of SOCOM’s distinct enterprise training requirements to conceptualize a unique SOCOM Training Marketplace design within Digital University. Our initial focus is to create a streamlined user interface and enhance the user experience for effortless navigation through the extensive pool of 100+ SOCOM-specific vendors. To capture SOCOM stakeholder needs, Omni is applying our commercially proven Human-Centered Design process adapted to meet the mission and security needs of DoD agencies. Our scope of work includes integrating an easy-to-use and streamlined procurement process, initially developed, and validated by the Digital University Program Team to expedite the acquisition of training resources. The specific and unique SOCOM Training Marketplace procurement process seamlessly aligns with the well-defined and strategically crafted set of Digital University acquisition stages, enabling integration of the two to meet specific training requirements established by the SOCOM enterprise.
