Omni Federal is pleased to announce a recent award to lead the development of SOCOM’s Enterprise Training Marketplace within Digital University. SOCOM recognized a need for a comprehensive, secure, and user-friendly marketplace where SOCOM units can easily explore, select, purchase, and manage approved training from reputable vendors. Speed, convenience, and flexibility are the three core principles of this simplified procurement process. SOCOM requires an Amazon-like platform with automated procurement features that can be easily changed and adapted to meet evolving mission requirements. This single mission-enabled platform will allow users to acquire the necessary training needs of Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), Theater Special Operations Commands (TSOCs), Special Missions Units (SMUs), and SOCOM service components. We leveraged a deep understanding of SOCOM’s distinct enterprise training requirements to conceptualize a unique SOCOM Training Marketplace design within Digital University. Our initial focus is to create a streamlined user interface and enhance the user experience for effortless navigation through the extensive pool of 100+ SOCOM-specific vendors. To capture SOCOM stakeholder needs, Omni is applying our commercially proven Human-Centered Design process adapted to meet the mission and security needs of DoD agencies. Our scope of work includes integrating an easy-to-use and streamlined procurement process, initially developed, and validated by the Digital University Program Team to expedite the acquisition of training resources. The specific and unique SOCOM Training Marketplace procurement process seamlessly aligns with the well-defined and strategically crafted set of Digital University acquisition stages, enabling integration of the two to meet specific training requirements established by the SOCOM enterprise. The array of possibilities unmanned air systems (UAS) bring to vertical lift operations is generating increasing interest. The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is convinced, awarding Airbus US Space & Defense, Inc. in the USA a contract to develop an unmanned variant of the UH-72 Lakota. Senior Manager, Business Development and Strategy, Carl Forsling explains the value and challenges of integrating the versatility of Airbus’ range into a UAS.  “Over time, a manned system can only fly so many hours per day, and yet there are these unmanned long-duration missions over extended distances. It’s well suited for it. The other aspect is that the increased threat requires unmanned systems because it means a person won’t be lost.” The Lakota’s versatility makes it a very interesting aircraft for unmanned operations. Whereas some drones or UAS are designed for singular purpose, an unmanned Lakota can adapt itself to any non-critical H145 operation that does not require the advanced skills of a pilot, leaving him or her ready for any other mission. A potential mission might be resupplying marine units of 60 to 70 people distributed throughout what is known as the first island chain. An unmanned platform is better suited to keep up with demand and isn’t risk worthy. The 2024 Defense Acquisition Workforce Writing Awards recognize original ideas and innovative approaches to tackling challenges and implementing acquisition flexibilities. The award winners showcased exceptional skill in enabling acquisition and achieving the goals set out in the National Defense Strategy (NDS) and were awarded at the event. “I’ve never seen a defense strategy that had so many phrases that tell you we need to do things differently,” noted DAU President Jim Woolsey. “Organizations don’t change easily,” Woolsey remarked. However, the acquisition community must innovate and adapt to address new challenges arising from the evolving global environment, near-peer competitors and rapid technological advancements. DoD has received “massive wake up calls” with lessons learned from evolving conflicts. These awards highlight the value Congress places on the workforces’ innovative ideas. The winners received their awards and presented their publications to program management students and guests during a ceremony at DAU on June 12, 2024. PROSOFT is hiring a Budget Technician with a TS/SCI at our USCENTCOM, MacDill AFB, FL location to plan, program, and budget, execute and facilitate reconciliation of assigned budgets for the HQ Staff. Conduct analysis by reviewing and tracking budget allocations and actual expenditures, maintain financial records for all financial documents for current and prior Fiscal Years, contracts, government purchase card, government travel cards, and Defense Travel System (DTS) travel documents. Use automated financial management systems and computer-generated products to accomplish financial management requirements and objectives. Assist with the preparation of annual spend plans to allocate appropriated funds to individual activities/requirements/functional areas. Assist with the development of narrative justifications statements and presentation materials for budget submissions, unfunded requirements. Perform a weekly analysis of actual expenditures compared to planned utilization of annual budget and/or allotment authority, evaluate fund availability to achieve balance of approved objectives and determine where reprogramming actions may be necessary. Align requirements to appropriate sources of funding and develop, package, process, and track financial data/results/impacts/trends. Participate in review, validation, and funding recommendation meetings for execution year UFRs. Process Journal Vouchers and Standard Form 1080/1081 accounting under direction of government oversight. Monitor current and prior year de-obligations, identify discrepancies, and ensure corrections are made in the financial system. Assist with clearing the open document list and working the dormant account review quarterly (DAR-Q); Monitor, analyze, and reconcile current and prior year commitments and obligations. June 12 U.S. Central Command Update TAMPA, Fla. – In the past 24 hours, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) forces successfully destroyed three anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM) launchers in a Houthi controlled area of Yemen and one uncrewed aerial system (UAS) launched from a Houthi controlled area of Yemen over the Red Sea. Separately, Iranian-backed Houthis launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBM) from Houthi controlled areas of Yemen over the Red Sea. There were no injuries or damage reported by U.S., coalition, or commercial ships. Additionally, one Iranian-backed Houthi unmanned surface vessel (USV) struck M/V Tutor, a Liberian flagged, Greek owned and operated vessel, in the Red Sea. M/V Tutor most recently docked in Russia. The impact of the USV caused severe flooding and damage to the engine room.
