MedTech, a $500 billion industry will more than double as TechMed becomes the new market driver. Interesting article, citing the top trends in Med Tech for 2024: -> Med Tech companies are expanding beyond their core business. -> M&A activity is declining across global markets. -> There is an increased focus on global healthcare access equity. -> There is an increased focus on sustainability and ESG. -> Generative AI opportunities abound in the medtech space. -> Telemedicine and digital therapeutics usage are continuing to grow. -> The use of biometric technology and wearables is growing. -> Weight loss drugs are unlikely to affect industry growth. I'll offer up a few that didn't make the list, though highly relevant none the less: -> The public markets remain frozen, I believe only one Med Tech company IPO'd in 2023. -> Strategics continue w/ divestitures & spin-offs. Burning off dead wood is common in a market like this. -> Private Equity continues to fill in gaps vacated by VC. They are entering early in the company life cycle, and providing creative options for early stage founders to execute on their vision. -> A Clinical AND Economic value prop are becoming requisite for investment. -> The quality of the leadership team is one of the most overlooked components to fundraising. Filling the right holes, w/ the right individuals can be the difference between zero term sheets and multiple term sheets.

Since our founding the dream was to see our Femtech solutions in every market in the world and the most difficult one was always the United States. Now, following the FDA approval, we can say that the U.S. launch of Motiva has exceeded even our highest expectations. The amazing response from plastic surgeons and women in the United States to Motiva has validated what we have seen in many other countries: namely that a safer implant that offers new options can move markets. We have onboarded over 250 new accounts in just the first three weeks of our launch and right now, we are adding 15 new accounts a day. We have 32 sales reps in the field and expect to be at 40 by year end. We also have taken this opportunity to strengthen our balance sheet and with the tangible results of reductions in our expense base, we are well funded for the opportunities ahead. We continue to focus on efficiencies across our global organization and our EBITDA loss was less than half of what it was a year ago despite increased investment in the United States. Finally, with the delay in U.S. FDA approval relative to our earlier expectations and continued weakness in Brazil, we are adjusting our guidance for 2024. We are on a clear path for global market leadership and have many years of significant double-digit revenue growth and emerging profitability ahead of us. #femtech #motiva #womenshealth #ESTA

Conclusion: Opportunities Amidst the Challenges While the venture capital environment in 2024 is undeniably more difficult than in past years, orthopedic startups still have opportunities to succeed. The key will be focusing on leaner operations, strategic partnerships, and aligning with VCs who understand the long gestation periods typical in this industry. As the dust from the 2020-2021 liquidity bubble settles, the industry is ripe for innovation, particularly in areas like AI and advanced surgical technologies.
