Department of Cannabis Control’s ‘inadequate oversight’ of $100M undermined California's licensing program for cannabis growers, according to California State Auditor Grant Parks. Parks determined the DCC ‘weakened’ the Local Jurisdiction Assistance Grant (LJAG) Program. The state’s LJAG Program, approved by the California Legislature in June 2021, provided the one-time funding source to aid thousands of small, legacy and equity cannabis businesses in complying with a state environmental mandate, which would enable them to transition from provisional to more permanent annual licenses. The whole provisional licensing program is “kaput” at the end of 2025, meaning cannabis cultivators who haven’t transitioned to annual licensure will find themselves up a certain creek with no paddle, Executive Director Genine Coleman of Origins Council -- a nonprofit that advocates for roughly 900 small, independent cannabis businesses and homestead farming families, primarily in the rural areas of Northern California -- told CBT. One of the biggest issues plauging all aspects of the industry is that we don’t have a universally agreed above list of cultivars or specs that outline those cultivars. Its hard to build consumer confidence when a customer isn’t really sure what they are buying. It’s hard to do meaningful research when we are comparing apples to oranges. A long, long time ago...way back in the #earlydays of California's Cannabis industry, there was an #outstanding event: The "Founder's Forum." Now it's back. The Return of the Founders Forum will provide a completely #different but highly #effective way to network and raise capital. ⚡ What made the Founder's Forum so unique: ➡ The event was free and invitation-only. ➡ Held on #1st Fridays monthly from 5pm-til late. ➡ #Winners who got funded, funded the next event. ➡ Uniquely held in a beach bar, no #shoes were required. ➡ There were no #presentations, nor any handouts nor slides. ➡ Unlike typical Cannabis conferences, it featured no stands or #booths. ➡ It was limited only to emerging markets founders, funders, and investors. Attendees had a pencil to rank 3 live pitches done without #microphones or visual aids at each event. Some Founders Forums had fun networking #tricks: once, attendees were given half a drink-ticket upon entry but had to find the other half of the #ticket held by someone else, forcing #networking. The Forum grew from #modest Meet-Ups eventually culminating in a #lavish Prohibition-Era-themed party in an LA hotel with rooftop pool. The Founder's Forum #vanished as more #conventional Cannabis events emerged, offering a format open to #anyone, not just founders and funders. The event #reappears in sunny San Diego later this year. As the cannabis industry matures, we are starting to get reliable data. This can help make decisions based on real sales figures and not predictions. 10 years ago, there was only one state with adult use sales (#colorado) and a handful of states with medical seals. Now there is 24 sates with adult use sales and an additional 15 states with medical seals. At the moment #california leads with total seals but #michigan leads with per capita seals. #florida leads in medical seals. #missouri with a relatively small population and only 17 months since they launched their adult-use market, is already in fifth place. California's Department of Cannabis Control (DCC) and the Department of Public Health (CDPH) have significantly ramped up cannabis product recalls. In 2024 alone, at least 23 recalls have been issued, surpassing the total from the previous two years combined. This uptick is attributed to more stringent inspections and product testing. Notable Recalls: 🔴 Flower Products: DCC recalled products from BloomBox Flower and Pat's Flower due to contamination. 🔴 Hemp-Infused Sodas: Mary Jones sodas were recalled for containing prohibited delta-9 THC isolates. Enforcement and Compliance: The state is intensifying efforts to remove non-compliant products from shelves and educate the public on potential risks. A Week of Wins & Losses for California's Cannabis Industry. Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have allowed sales farmers markets, dashing hopes for small growers to sell directly to consumers. This decision highlights the ongoing challenges small businesses face in navigating California's complex cannabis regulations. However, it's not all bad news! Newsom signed a separate measure to legalize cannabis cafes, similar to those in the Netherlands. Starting January 1, consumers will be able to enjoy cannabis in social settings, such as cafes where they can sip coffee, eat, and listen to music. As Assembly Member Matt Haney stated: "Lots of people want to enjoy legal cannabis in the company of others, and there's no doubt that cannabis cafes will bring massive economic, cultural, and creative opportunities to our state." The last thing the California cannabis industry needs is more taxation. The CDTFA and our “Governor” aim to do exactly that with Regulation 3802. I got an email response quickly confirming receipt. Beyond getting this repealed, lawmakers and the CDTFA need to be pushed to build a real plan, not a concept of one, that involves working with the industry to helps the CDTFAs tax collection issue, and our tax woes.

Anyone working in the medical cannabis space globally will likely at some point have heard of Bonni Goldstein MD and her work in cannabinoid research and being one of the world's most experienced paediatric prescribers having treated thousands of children diagnosed with complex neurological disorders or childhood cancers with cannabis. Bonni has been an amazing advocate for children in the UK also. She's reached out asking for our support in signing this petition. https://chng.it/bmbRYPSnpY Despite the recent news that federally the US plan to deschedule cannabis, the state of California has announced the Assembly Bill 2223 to limit or remove products containing THC. The driving factors behind this bill were originally meant to ban semi-synthetic delta-8 and delta-9 products that have proliferated throughout the US. These products are contaminated with synthetic cannabinoids and other unintended by-products, which can be harmful. Worryingly it now includes naturally occurring hemp devired THC products of which are prescribed. The same issues as the UK remain with industry pushing forward with innovative clinical trials in full spectrum medicines with an aim to becoming a licensed product . Until such time patients are reliant on the current formulary which if the bill is passed, renders them accessing products through cannabis dispensaries at much higher costs and wrong ratios or illicit markets with no clinical oversight.
