Today’s Friday Book Recommendation is “Assistant to the Villain” by Hannah Nicole Maehrer. 🦹🏻‍♂️ This was a fun read especially from the perspective of the bad guy and I enjoyed how the ending switches things around for our main character Evie. This fantasy novel is about a woman named Evie who is down on her luck trying to find a job to provide for her family. She lives a pretty uneventful life until one day after still not finding a job she runs into the villain. This morally gray character decides to hire Evie as his personal assistant. Without any other options, Evie decides to take the job. 👩🏻‍💼 That isn’t to say it’s not without its fair share of trouble though, like avoiding being caught working for the villain along with his antics that put her in several close calls, but their interaction made me laugh several times. And the ending was a 🤯 for me! This was a light hearted read for me and I enjoyed it. If you like something along the lines of “Once Upon a Time” meets the “Office” (as described in the Entangled Publishing” website you can find this book at all the retailers like Amazon, B&N, etc. in all formats. Writer's Block? Build a Sledgehammer. For a tech exec, staring at a blank screen meant for an actionable message is more than frustrating—it's an intolerable roadblock. Your job demands that you translate complexity into clarity. That you make risk tangible to a non-technical audience. It means you must move people who don't live in your world. But words don't always cooperate. And the challenge isn't your knowledge - it's 𝘧𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 it. The trick is finding the link between technical accuracy and emotional resonance. That link is the difference between a board seeing cyber as a cost center and seeing it as a competitive advantage. It's how you make stakeholders invest, not just nod along. Basically, you need a system to break through when it happens to you. Start by sketching the outcome you want—agreement, urgency, or a specific action. Anchor it with a single, vivid example, like how a security investment prevented millions in losses. Then, build your narrative around the 𝘥𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯-𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘳𝘴' language, not yours. When time is tight and the stakes are high, you need someone who can do it for you. A ghostwriter who speaks tech and business can transform your insight into influence. Todays book recommendation is actually a journal! Yes this is my case of journals and as a good writer I have several with ideas, partials stories, partial novels, and poems. But journaling isn’t just for kids! 📝 According to some mental health experts journaling daily or often can help reduce anxiety and depression, improve memory, help process trauma, and improve attitude with gratitude just to name a few. While I love to write my stories out in journals I also find myself taking the time to write out my feelings to help me process them. Or if I read a self help book, or the Bible, I like to write out how the passage made me feel or what thoughts came to mind. I even journal my dreams (I recommended a great one called Dreamer of Dreams Dream Journal - you can find it in a previous post). 📔 Journaling is not just for us writers or readers but for anyone! This journal was gifted to me several years ago from Barnes and Noble’s which has a great selection of all types of journals (which is why my husband steers me clear because I try to walk out with a new one each time! 😁). It doesn’t have to be fancy. Even a composition notebook 📓 from Target or Walmart will do. And you know Amazon has a plethora of them too! Do you journal? What do you like to journal about? Lately, I’ve been having conversations with editors about using swear words in headlines and body copy. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It’s generally a good rule to avoid using them – especially if you rely on Google News and Discover for traffic. But there are rare cases where obscenities are part of the story and you’ll want to include them in the head, the page title and the body copy. Here’s how to do it without violating search engine headline policies (this may also help with syndication partners and social media headlines). Note that editorial policies may vary, but this can be a jumping-off point. ✅ DO: Use swear words if it’s a critical component of the article. ✅ DO: Use them in direct quotations. ❌ DON’T: Use swear words for shock value or to make the article “more clicky”. 🤬 If a curse word appears in the headline or page title, make sure to remove it from the URL before publishing. 🤬 When using profanities, use the initial letter followed by hyphens, not dashes, and no last letter, like:  s- - - or f- - -. 🤬 This also applies to compound words: a- - - - - -, not a- - -hole. 🤬 For words ending in ‘ing’, use the first letter, plus hyphens, then ‘ing’: f- - -ing. Out of context, this word could be farting, farking, fussing, fading, etc. If your editorial policy is ‘never ever ever use swear words in headlines,’ then a way to get around that is to change the focus of the headline from the message (the swearing) to the action. 🚫 Instead of this headline: Famous Singer Tells Runway Photographer to ‘F- - - Off’ 😃 Try: Famous Singer Claps Back At Runway Photographer At The Grammys Or 🚫 Instead of: Famous Person Wears ‘F - - - You’ Sweatshirt While Shopping With Kids 😃 Try:  Famous Person Wears Explicit Sweatshirt While Shopping With Kids And when in doubt about using profanities or swear words in your headlines, don’t use them. Swearing is not required. 🤬 #SEO #content
