Scoop: In the era of higher interest rates, this strategy will likely become more popular: GTCR LLC is raising its debut fund to provide non-control, structured equity investments to middle market companies. Structured equity will likely get more exposure over the next few years. #Privateequity GPs who acquired companies using cheap debt prior to 2022 will be facing more expensive refinancing options as the debt comes due. As well, GPs are looking for ways to return capital back to LPs in older funds amid slower exit activity. Structured equity provides an option to more expensive credit or dilutive equity. All Roads Lead to Gold? The New Treasury Secretary’s Big Bet President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, is already making waves. The Connecticut-based hedge fund manager and long-time investor in gold shared his thoughts on gold’s pivotal role just weeks before his appointment. In a Nov. 4, 2024 interview with Capital Allocators, Bessent stated: ‘I think we are in a long-term bull market in gold. I think we are seeing reserve accumulation by Central Banks. I follow it closely. It’s [gold] my biggest position. And even I was surprised when the other day the Central Bank of Poland came out and said they wanted to take their reserves to 20%.’ Bessent’s comments echo the sentiment driving gold’s current bull market. Central banks, particularly in Eastern Europe, are ramping up gold reserves at record rates, aligning with a national and individual financial security vision. At Argo, we see the same potential. The Securities and Exchange Commission's Investor Advisory Council is citing my article on "finfluencers" in its proposal to require people giving investment advice on social media to clearly reveal compensation, conflicts of interest, etc. I am all for more transparency, as it improves markets, but to my mind, enforcement will be a big challenge. There are so many people trying to "finfluence" I can't imagine what kind of a staff you'd need to watch all the investment-oriented TikToks, YouTube videos, Instagram posts, X posts, Bluesky posts....etc. Maybe this is an area an AI could help with? https://lnkd.in/esFQ8eFR

KBRA released the May 2024 issue of CMBS Trend Watch. Heading into CRE Finance Council’s (CREFC) midyear conference, an overarching theme may be the resurgence of #CMBS private label issuance. In May, 14 deals comprising $9.3 billion of issuance priced, representing a year-over-year (YoY) increase of 158.9%. MY LATEST ON PRIVATE CREDIT: Blue-chip asset managers known primarily for their private-equity businesses have significantly increased private credit as a percentage of their assets under management within the past year. Private-equity giant Blackstone, with assets that rose about 7% to more than $1.06 trillion in the first quarter, increased its credit and insurance assets 13% to $329.6 billion at the end of March from $291.3 billion a year earlier. At buyout firm KKR & Co., assets managed by its credit business rose almost 12% to $260 billion at the end of this year’s first quarter from $233 billion a year earlier. Other publicly traded asset managers have also noted the increasing importance of private credit. In recent earnings reports and conference calls on the results, firm leaders cited strong returns as well as significant investor and borrower interest in debt offerings as driving forces of growth in the asset class. https://lnkd.in/ebDbhWw2
