Excited to be speaking at Aspire this year. One of my sessions will be “What Makes Employees Leave – and How to Keep Them.” I’ll share the results of an “intent to stay” survey of #publicsector #employees that generated more than 8,300 responses from employees in a variety of occupations and demographic groups. I am honored to have been invited by the Chief to share insights for "Path to the C Suite." In advocating for increased female representation in executive roles and board positions, it's crucial to acknowledge the obstacles women face in reaching and staying in these positions. With over half of CEOs anticipating greater leadership challenges this year and shorter CEO tenures becoming the norm under mounting pressure, there's an urgent need to establish support systems that foster robust leadership within organizations. These trends are particularly concerning given that female CEOs tend to have shorter tenures compared to their male counterparts, with data indicating a 25% shorter tenure on average. It's imperative that we address these challenges head-on and work towards creating environments where all aspiring leaders can thrive and make lasting contributions. I I am thrilled to share my recent experience leading the "Crafting Cultural Compassion" workshop for RBIJ’s Unlocking Potential (UP) program. This initiative is dedicated to equipping major employers to use hiring to disrupt the prison pipeline and empower young people through meaningful, long-term career opportunities In our training session, we dived into practical strategies and interactive discussions aimed at fostering empathy, understanding, and respect. Here are some core components we covered: ⏩Embracing Cultural Diversity: We explored the critical role of cultural fluency in creating inclusive environments, emphasizing the importance of understanding and celebrating diverse cultural experiences and perspectives . ⏩Building Empathy and Compassion: Participants learned techniques to develop deeper empathy and cultivate compassion, which are essential in connecting authentically with young people. ⏩Effective Communication Strategies: The workshop highlighted ways to communicate sensitively and effectively, ensuring that young individuals from varied backgrounds feel heard and understood. We shaped scenarios that participants were able to use communication strategies we designed in real time. ⏩Navigating Cultural Differences: We discussed how to identify and bridge cultural gaps to foster meaningful connections and mutual respect with youth. ⏩Creating Inclusive Environments: Strategies were shared on how to construct spaces where every young person feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive. The engagement and commitment from all the participating organizations were inspiring. It was a privilege to contribute to this transformative journey towards more inclusive leadership in youth engagement.
