Here's a playbook we're running to generate leads for a hemp based company that focuses on B2B: 1) Google ads for high intent keywords to capture existing demand. This is usually the quickest path to leads. We use Google Search Console + AlsoAsked to build a bank of keywords. We use a clean domain to build a landing page that's devoid of much specific language, avoids using trigger keywords etc. We setup conversion tracking using GTM & GA4; and then setup a webhook in their CRM to ensure tracked correctly at the contact level Once we start to see which keywords are bringing the clicks/conversions; we'll invest more time into building out custom landing pages for those keywords to more closely align with search intent. We also setup a few retargeting campaigns 2) We used Google and a 3rd party data provider (that uses SIC codes) to identify & build a targeted account list For a more niche business (with nuance b/t states & their regulatory components) doing some of this manually is really only way Once we have the target companies; we use Apollo.io to enrich the data. From there we will be doing a few things: - Outbound email campaigns to share helpful content; we'll run this through Instantly.ai - Adding accounts into LinkedIn to build lookalike audiences & run a few campaigns to distribute content & share some brand awareness ads + sprinkle in a few silly meme ads for attention. This will be a small budget of $1-2K per month given the small TAM - Setting up 2 direct mail campaign tests. 1 will be a letter style mailing & the other will be a postcard. Both will have diff offers; with some tangible / no-cost value prop to the target account - Working w/ internal sales team to tee up cold calls using enriched data; CTA will be checking on the mailer & offering free value adds 3) Setup new website visitor ID from Instantly.ai on their main URL; and then will be building a funnel of ID > outbound using their tool to ideally send more targeted / personalized outreach based on intent. SEO is unsuitable for early-stage startups I co-own a marketing agency that sells SEO services, and I can honestly say that. Over the past 3 months, I've had over 40 calls with Pre-Seed startup founders who wanted SEO. Why do they want it? 1. "Because it is cost-effective." 2. "Because this is a long-term investment that will surely (?) be appreciated by investors." 3. "Because all google my site, but it's not top 1." The third point is a real problem, but run Google Ads for a brand keyword for a couple of months and live your happy life. Why don't they need it? 1. SEO is not about quick changes, flexibility, and reactivity. If you were a "fintech solution for e-commerce," everything on your website would be focused on these keywords. If you want to change the niche, positioning, or the product itself - it will take +-4 months. Too much for a startup 2. SEO is challenging to connect with other acquisition channels. When you run FB and Google ads on the landing page, it should be simple and minimalistic, with clear messages and beautiful pics. Then your new SEO specialist says to enter 10+ keywords everywhere, add content, add blocks like on competitors' sites, etc. The page has become more attractive for search algorithms but isn't yet at the Top 1. And you suddenly wanted to cry over the results of the social media ads. 3. SEO is costly. To do SEO, you need to invest 5k+. If it's a bootstrap product at 2-MVP-features-stage, investing funds in SEO to validate the idea is unreasonable. There are much more cost-effective channels for attracting customers for early-stage. Trad Agency vs Chad Agency. Which one are you? Trad Agency: Generalists. They do web design, SEO, PPC, logo design, everything. And for anyone too. Local plumber to national ecom stores. Chad Agency:
Do one thing for one avatar. For example ‘Link Building for SAAS’. They are world class at that one thing, and know the avatar SO well, they know their pain points inside out. They can charge more as they have less competition. Every process from marketing to delivery is congruent. - Trad Agency: Custom and bespoke work. They spec up campaigns unique for each clients needs. No 2 campaigns are the same. Work is unpredictable and inconsistent, but they value giving the client exactly what they need. Chad Agency:
Productised solution. They offer 1-2 solutions, and because they are servicing one specific avatar, the campaigns are predictable in delivery and results. There are variables to change, but mostly they are doing one thing over and over. - Trad Agency:
In-house team. They build a team of in-house experts because they believe everything should be 100% in their control. They keep increasing their overheads and size of office as they get new clients. In tough times they may need to make layoffs and downsize. Chad Agency: Lean in-house team and outsource deliverables. The lean in-house team do the highest leverage tasks such as account management and strategy. All deliverables such as links, design, video, SEO etc are outsourced to contractors who are paid per unit of work. Meaning they can easily scale up and down, weathering any economic or industry storm. - Trad agency: Hourly billing. The trad agency keeps things simple and understandable and charges out their teams time to the client. Chad agency: Value billing. The chad agency charges for the value of the service rather than the time it takes. They understand that billing by time encourages inefficiency. They untie the time and value connection and scale exponentially. They place more focus on the results rather than the time it takes. - Trad agency: Charge at the end of the month via an invoice. Trad agencies stick to 30-60 day billing terms, because that’s the done thing. Chad agency: Charge upfront, like an ecom store. No work is done until payment is made. Video makes or breaks your product launch. Okay... maybe not completely. But from a marketing perspective... if your launch video sucks... then the whole launch falls flat and has way less of an impact. Time and time again... I see SaaS companies get their launch video completely wrong. But, not Saipen (Ron Nachum). Their recent launch video was a *masterclass* in what a SaaS launch video should look like. And their video engagement backs it right up. Here's a mini-breakdown of their video script (follow this for your next launch): 1️⃣ Setting the Scene (Problem Context) "You are now the CFO of a multi-billion dollar company. You make the most important do-or-die decisions every single day..." The video immediately positions the viewer in the shoes of a CFO, emphasizing the high stakes nature of the role, and the potential risks due to inaccurate or delayed data. If you're a CFO... you'll immediately resonate with this. 2️⃣ Problem Introduction "The world's biggest companies are flying blind... wrangling information from antiquated ERPs and CRMs that should have been left in the 90s." The script highlights the inefficiencies and frustrations CFOs face, grounding the problem in relatable, dated tools and error-prone processes. I love phrases like "left in the 90s" as it indicates a big lagging problem with existing solutions and tools. 3️⃣ Solution Introduction: "This is why we built Sapien. Sapien is the world's first financial analyst for enterprise finance teams..." With the problem established, Saipen is introduced in a super simple way: "The worlds first financial analyst for enterprise finance teams" No jargon, straight to the point. 4️⃣ How Saipen Works "Sapien plugs directly into your messiest Excel spreadsheets... with a natural language query, finance teams can now answer the most complex questions in minutes rather than days or weeks." This section explains Saipen’s functionality, emphasising how it can work with even the 'messiest' of excel sheets. Again... something a lot of finance teams will relate with haha. 5️⃣ Demonstration of Benefits (Customer Impact) "For one of our customers, Sapien easily digs through a year's worth of raw transaction-level data..." "Years worth of data" is a *perfect way* to emphasise the tools capability and it gives decision makers an idea of how much data can be pulled in. 6️⃣ Future Vision for Saipen "We’re building a future where enterprise finance is instant and org-wide..." This section paints the end vision which is something that is usually missed in a lot of launch videos but is super important for giving decision makers an idea of the role it will play in their tech stack. 7️⃣ Call to Action "And if you want to learn more about how we're doing it, check us out at getsaipen (dot com)" The video concludes with a direct invitation to engage further, prompting interested CFOs to learn more about Saipen.

This tip is a must for any DTC brands with an eCommerce store... Run your site through Google PageSpeed Insights and check the "Reduce the impact of third-party code" section. Platforms or apps you add to your site often include Javascript that (always) slows down your site. Some scripts required for marketers. Meta. TikTok. Google Analytics. But others could be from apps you tested out months or years ago, and those scripts still load every time your site loads. They could be heat maps, live chat scripts, or analytics platforms you no longer use. The longer your eCommerce site has been live, the more likely you have these scripts running. You'd be surprised how much of an impact this can have on your site's loading speed, especially on mobile devices. We just went through this with a client and their PageSpeed score went up 40 points, just by removing old scripts they no longer used.
