This article highlights research that speaks to the importance of having brand consistency, which I wholeheartedly agree with. While its main focus is on brand guidelines for consistent design and content, I’d take it a significant step forward. In services businesses brand consistency is also (and more importantly) about how your people deliver on the brand values and promise with your clients and with each other each and every day. What brand strategy and guidelines do you have in place that help to ensure your firm is doing that?

ADD "A FANTASTIC DRIVING EXPERIENCE" TO WHAT RILEY SAID. I've been critical of Jaguar's new campaign...but my criticism is focused on the company's leadership, not so much it's AOR. After all, that's what creatives are supposed to do -- Stir the pot. Break things. It's corporate leadership that's tasked with providing creatives with the proper vision w/r brand, legacy, etc. and making sure they don't go over the guardrails. Based on The Telegraph's reporting, Jaguar's problems extend to the very top. Believe it or not, fonts make a big difference. The decision to keep the font from the last election was a sound one. There was brand equity there. People were used to seeing "Harris" in that bold and compassionate font. I rarely change logos when I do brand refreshes because, unless the logo is really bad or the brand's reach has been severely limited, there's no reason to go against how people already recognize you. It makes more sense to focus on the other elements of the visual identity or brand execution. Inevitable. ... Sad. ... And totally unavoidable news that dropped today. I hurt for my friends and former colleagues in departments whose jobs will be affected. But as I've said a million times since leaving the business almost three years ago, there's a wonderful world of opportunities out there -- and people will be blown away by your skills. You can and will flourish. As for the future of journalism in New Jersey, know these things: 👉 NJAM will be a different organization moving forward. It has to be. But in no way is this the death of the state's most important and most influential news organization. We're not going back to the early 2000s, but don't believe the haters. It is really about growth from here moving forward, and there is a digital news business in place -- one that is bigger and healthier than most would imagine. 👉 The opportunities to do great, impactful journalism have never been greater across all the digital platforms. 👉 Never bet against the smart, determined and resourceful people still in the newsroom. They're the ones who built a digital business with about 25% of the staff resources from our peak. 👉 Never bet against the Newhouse family or Advance's leadership team and what can be done with 15 million unique visitors a month. That's a lot of eyeballs and a lot of data. Those earliest rules of digital still make sense: First, build an audience. Then, monetize it. To put a bow on things: Be the supportive friend today. It's not that hard and there are people who need that more than anything today.
