Get to know Beverly a bit more below. How do you describe our services to friends and family? This has been the hardest thing for me to do! Most people have heard the word fiduciary but don't always understand what it means. Most people have heard of the CFP® designation, but don't know what real comprehensive financial planning is. So, I try to describe our services by illustrating the benefits of our relationship: We will walk you through a process to help you identify your true values and life goals. We want to identify the things that bring you joy and happiness and help you allocate your resources accordingly. The planning process will help bring all facets of your financial life into focus, never losing site of your values and the things that are most important. The collaborative process will give you confidence you are on the right track or help you understand if adjustments are necessary. Clients often experience reduced stress and increased communication with loved ones regarding money matters. There's so much behind the scenes technical analysis and number crunching but, ultimately, I just want clients to know that we care and together we can make sense of all of these moving parts. 🎯 What's your favorite hobby outside work? My husband and I have started ballroom dancing! 💃It is so much fun, great exercise, great people, and something we can do together. It's a lot harder than it looks 😀 What's one piece of advice you'd give to someone in our industry? I would say to any young, new person to the industry - Don't "play the comparison game." You are unique in your communication style; how you work with clients; the value you bring, etc. While it can be helpful to learn about what other advisors are doing and the tools they are using, your uniqueness is what makes your client relationships special. The clients who need you will find you. 💡

Tax diversification? What is it? It was an honor to be quoted in this ComparisonAdviser article by Brandon Canonica in September about this important topic. The article also has great insight from Chris Urban, CFP®, RICP® and Thomas Cook, CFP®, EA. Here are the parts where I was quoted: “Having a good pot of each type of money gives you flexibility in retirement to pull funds from the most advantageous source, given your circumstances at the time in each particular year,” says Keith Spencer, CFP, founder and financial planner at Spencer Financial Planning, and Certified Member of the Alliance of Comprehensive Planners (ACP). “The idea is that it is useful to have a healthy mix of pre-tax money (such as Traditional accounts), tax-free money (such as Roth and HSA accounts), and taxable money, especially if you’re headed into retirement,” Spencer explains. By implementing this idea into your saving and investing strategy, he adds, you’re “less beholden to whether future tax rates are higher or lower than current tax rates, as you have money in each type of account.” “By contributing to different accounts with different tax treatment, thereby paying taxes at different times, you’re not quite as susceptible to the effects of tax rates moving materially higher or lower in the future,” says Spencer. However, he notes, “Actually implementing this is probably more art than science.
