“Dan has the unique ability to cut through noise and prioritize unlike anyone I have ever met. In an operational sense, Dan was always pushing to focus and delegate effectively. A few times I came to Dan with friends' businesses and he was always generous with his time and gave amazing feedback. I imagine this is why he has earned the title "most loved VC" in the United States. In addition, when I worked at NetClarify (a pre-revenue startup) Dan gave me invaluable insight into potential hurdles and other ways to accelerate the company's growth. Lastly, I saw Dan as a mentor in its purist sense. He continuously took chances on me and was a "giver" with both his time and expertise. We are all lucky to have Dan Rua in the Gainesville community.”

Imagine discovering a new mathematical formula that, when applied correctly, would save thousands of lives and dollars across the world. Then imagine that the formula is so complex that the only hope of applying it correctly depends on computers doing the calculations. Therefore, to communicate your discovery to the world you create an electronic instruction manual written in computer language. Those skilled in computer languages may read the instruction manual to learn how your formula works. But, more importantly, the large majority of people in the world who are not as skilled may ask their computer to read it for them. In so doing, are those people reading an expression from you as the inventor and instruction manual creator? Is that an expression that deserves limited protection under Constitutional freedom of expression doctrines?
