On Friday I passed Security+, On Sunday I configured an enterprise level network in my livingroom to put what I learned into practice. NGFW, Cloud Controller, Vpn Router, Managed Switch, Ap. I have a list of projects I will be tackling one by one, and plan to post about my experiences here. 🚨 I will be in Málaga for PIVOTcon to attend enlightening talks, soak up rays, and to connect with folks who i sit directly next to at work (you know who you are) as well as others from more far flung locales. Drake once said in his hit song, No Friends In The Industry, “[a]ll that linkin' up, man, I'ma see ya when I see ya.” I however unlike drizzy would like to make friends in the industry, and thus will take a more proactive approach in linking up. A mentor and good friend of mine asked a question recently and it got me thinking about the importance of considering all paths to achieving a goal. I have 18+ years of honorable service in the military. A Doctoral degree and a few high level industry certifications. Every achievement I did because I wanted to. Don’t get me wrong sometimes the path was hard but I learned to finding purpose and meaning along the way. And after all that my assessment is… 1. you can start working goals without a degree, certification, or even experience. One path may be harder than the other but that doesn’t mean that anyone is better than the other. 2. Find a goal that you think will be interesting to achieve and work towards it. If after a while you find that it’s not what you thought then pivot to something that you find more interesting and enjoyable.

I’ll prolly never shut my mouth about the help desk .. it made me !!! Me personally I decided to go the basic route 2years ago and it was the best decision I ever made . My mentor told me who works in network security for the federal government said get on the help desk: 1) To see if I even like Information Technology . 2) To explore the different things you can do in information technology . 3) To learn how to problem solve because that too is a skill . 4) most importantly understand buisness needs ! * important to note that you don’t have to do it this way , you can skip it and get a job specialized in a specific skill and yes it can take longer but it’s far from impossible * Ultimately I think it boils down to , the kind of job within IT you are seeking and how much knowledge you have . lol I was a newbie I didn’t even know the difference between a cpu and a monitor I thought the monitor was the cpu hahahahaha !! #technicalsuppport #happywednesday #informationtechnology #helpdesk #wordfromthewise #ccna #jobs #desktopsupport

Certifications: More Important Than Ever? Do hiring managers care about certifications? With AI making it easier to fake resumes and interviews, I think they should. Certifications offer verifiable proof that you've put in the work, mastered the skills, and passed a rigorous exam at a testing center. Speaking of which, I just renewed my AZ-104 and earned the Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate cert!
