This might be controversial: I believe there's no such thing as a time waster. Rather, it’s your patient journey that needs improvement! Hear me out 👇🏼
 If someone is a "time waster" i.e someone who comes in for a consultation with a clinician whose time is valuable and expensive, but: - they’re not ready to buy - they're shopping around - they're looking for a bargain then something has gone wrong in the patient journey. Why? If properly qualified, they wouldn't be someone who wasn't a genuine prospective patient. So you should look internally at your patient journey and think: - What can we do to prevent that next time? - Should we have booked this person in? - Should we have asked more questions on the phone? - Should we have known if they've seen other people about this problem before? - What treatment or problem are they trying to solve? - What other things they tried? If that's not been done, you will end up wasting clinical time. It's easy to point fingers, but it's much more productive to look at your internal processes and see what you can do to prevent that from happening.

Picture this: you’re chatting with your doctor during a routine appointment, and you mention your weekend plans with your partner. Suddenly, your doctor freezes. He tells you he can no longer proceed with the appointment because he isn’t comfortable touching you. Your provider rushes out of the room, leaving you sitting on the exam table, alone and confused. Burned-out physicians need less of this: 🚫 Wellness committees they feel pressured to join. 🚫 8-10h team retreats meant to help with burnout, yet conveniently scheduled on their days off. 🚫 Duplicate training and surveys squeezed into their already notoriously overbooked schedules. And more of this: 🌿 Honest conversations about burnout that cut through the bureaucratic red tape (in a judgment-free space) 🌿 OPTIONAL wellness activities that respect their limited time off and don't feel like yet another box to check. 🌿 Fulfilled doctors who've reached the other side of burnout sharing their wisdom with medical students and residents. The world of medicine is already stressful enough, With 42% of full-time physicians facing daily battles just to make it through. If we keep piling on mandatory "wellness" initiatives that feel more like the antithesis of wellness onto broken healthcare system — These numbers will only keep rising. Back in July, I posted 7 tips for creating fantastic patient education. Now, I'm back with 7 more ⤵ 1. Say the most important things first or in a format that's easy to find. Patients are looking for an action to take, not to read for fun. 2. Use plain language. 3. Lay out all of their treatment options. Don't mention a lack of treatment as an option just because it's not what YOU would do. 4. Use "you" language, not "the patient, the individual, etc." 5. Seek to be inclusive. Use "they/their" and check out the American Medical Association's evolving guidelines on inclusive language. ‼ 6. Consider the population you serve. Is the advice you're giving them applicable to their everyday lives? Do they live in homes large enough to allow them to isolate from their family? Do they have access to pharmacies where they can buy over-the-counter medication? Do they trust the institution of medicine? Etc. 7. Don't let bias leak into your writing. Remember that everyone views medicine, life, and death differently. --- Bonus Tip: Never use lists this long! People don't want to read chunks of text(sorry, y'all) and they don't want to read the world's longest lists, either. 😉 --- What would you add? 37%. That’s how many physicians feel burnt out from being specifically over-worked. There are lots of reasons for burnout - this is specifically related to excessive work hours. Think about it—when was the last time you truly disconnected and did something just for you? It’s easy to forget there's more to life than work. Remember, your job should not consume your life. Here are 3 things you can do outside work to regain balance and joy: ✨Explore a Hobby - Why? Because creative expression helps you regulate emotions that have been suppressed due to a hectic lifestyle. ✨Spend Time in Nature - Disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature. A walk in the park or a weekend hike can do wonders. ✨Volunteer - Why? Because giving to others less fortunate than yourself provides perspective and shifts your mind into a state of gratitude. Because what's the point of excelling at work if you're not enjoying your life? Long shifts and endless tasks can't be all there is. We need a shift in how we view our lives at work. Our healthcare system needs new standards that respect the well-being of its workers—not just their output. Remember, no one is coming to save us.
