In many ways this type of arrangement is what we should expect to see more of: shared risk and reward and not just straight up rights fees. The result: huge increase in high quality reach and engagement, and new revenue streams unlocked that should have little impact on legacy rights deals. Biggest media story of the year: the explosion in women’s sports. The combination of big stars emerging in soccer and basketball with the need for live content for streaming services should drive huge growth. Not to mention the desire for people to go live events and the affordability of taking a family to a game. A lot of strong secular trends should set up the NWSL and WNBA for really good runs.

Analytics firm Chartmetric has teamed up with ticketing company Shoobs for a two-part analysis of the state of hip-hop and rap music. The first part tries to get to the bottom of the decline in hip-hop’s presence on industry and DSP charts in recent years, despite the genre’s cultural heft. The answer? It may simply be about diversification for key artists. “As music becomes increasingly global, the lines between genres continue to blur. This is particularly true with hip-hop, as many Western artists are beginning to release tracks outside of the genre’s traditional sound to engage with new audiences worldwide,” suggested the piece. “It’s clear that artists associated with the hip-hop genre have had no problem breaking out in the past three years, such as Ice Spice or Kay Flock. New and on-demand episodes of Yellowstone, RuPaul's Drag Race, and Survivor will continue to stream in Spectrum households for years to come, thanks to a new distribution deal between Paramount and Charter Communications. The deal keeps CBS, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Paramount and Showtime networks available on Spectrum TV service (set-top box and Spectrum TV App), but also grants access to Paramount+ and BET+ to Spectrum TV households, and makes DTC apps available to Spectrum internet-only homes. This agreement is essentially a carbon copy of the landmark The Walt Disney Company & Charter deal from a few months ago, extending access to ESPN+ and Disney+ to millions of Spectrum households for no additional cost, proving Charter Communications' commitment to choice and value for consumers and subscribers, and creating additional access points for Spectrum Reach as a dominant CTV/streaming ad vendor. #neverstopreaching
