“Transitioning from military to civilian life is a lifelong process” Transitioning from military life to civilian life is a profound journey that extends far beyond the initial years after service. For many veterans and their families, this transition is not merely a phase; it is a lifelong experience filled with unique challenges and opportunities for growth. Upon leaving the military, service members often find themselves navigating a complex job market. Despite years of dedicated service and leadership, many face the harsh reality that their military experience is not always recognized or valued in civilian sectors. Skills honed over decades can be overlooked or misunderstood, leading to frustration and feelings of inadequacy. This disconnect creates significant barriers, forcing veterans to start anew in building their careers, often beginning at the bottom tier in fields where they once held leadership roles. Moreover, the transition is compounded by the lack of understanding from employers, organizations, and even within some state systems regarding the value of military training and experience. Many companies may not fully appreciate how military skills translate into civilian work, leading to missed opportunities for both veterans and employers. To address these challenges, we must foster a culture of awareness and appreciation for the contributions of veterans. We are fortunate to have the Hurricane Hunters but this season is yet another reason why we need to wake up and strengthen our measurement and observation capabilities. How much better off would we be with observations every 2.5 hrs with 3D wind data at 100 meter resolution and cloud altitude and features at 100 meter resolution? I will tell you (but also, read the bleeping literature!!!!) 12 hour earlier forecasts on a ROLLING BASIS and 2X more accurate track and intensity forecasts. I emphasize “rolling basis” because this 12hrs translates to days in advance. There is no good reason why we are denying the people in harms way this superior forecast capability. I guess Northrop Grumman really needed that $15 million to “think” about a train on the moon while saving lives right here, right now, was not worth spending money on. Look it up. The space train got more funding than improving hurricane and extreme weather forecasts. Sorry that I care and sound so shouty. But let’s stop whispering and start shouting. We can make a difference. Not a slam on the efforts and people that are putting themselves in danger to collect valuable data right now. It is a slam on the moronic priorities that are set by people that spend more time and money removing “climate change” from textbooks over doing actual things that safe lives.

As my family and I get ready for our next move to the San Antonio area. These are the things to always stay on top of with any PCS move. Military members must always be prepared for a Permanent Change of Station (PCS), a significant aspect of military life. This readiness involves organizing personal belongings, updating important documents, and ensuring their families are prepared for the transition. Being proactive in planning can help alleviate the stress and uncertainty that comes with relocating to a new duty station. In addition to logistical preparations, military members need to be mentally and emotionally ready for the changes a PCS brings. Adapting to new environments, building new support networks, and embracing the opportunities at each new station are essential for a successful transition.

More state governments need to do this! If the Federal government won't do its job, and it won't, then do it for them. And if any Federal staff (DOJ, FBI, DHS) attempts to prevent the state from protecting their citizens, lock them up for interfering with law enforcement. There has to be a cost to their complicity! This is a policy. You have to vote and vote early. Vote policies, not party ... or hate, or division, or conspiracy theories.
