Per TechCrunch, "news-reader startup Particle is teaming up with publishers to seek out a new business model for the AI era, where AI summaries of news don’t have to mean lost revenues." Later, the article notes that Particle has not revealed its business model. "That’s because it hasn’t settled on one yet." So, I reread the first paragraph and see that it says the company is just SEEKING a new business model. Too much, too soon, too fast. Especially without seatbelts in the car. What will I tell the camera manufactures who make the Arri, Red, Sony and Blackmagic Cameras we use? What will I tell the agency owner who must whittle his 250 employees down to 15 prompters? What will I tell the talents driver who must feed his family of 5? What will I tell the visual effects artist who just lost his mom to brain cancer and has to provide care to his already sick father? What will I tell the intern already enrolled in a 40K education learning communications with a curriculum that can’t keep up? What will I tell the model who is a single mom working 3 jobs, one other as a waitress and the other in accounting also being replaced? At least Paul, Ted and monkeys everywhere will be ok though. Careless and profit driven. Innovation before ethics never worked for anyone, just ask Harold Innis. Perhaps we can all go back to school to learn how to fire people. At least there will be opportunity in that for a while.

We trained a LoRA model on Flux to enable Kate (or creators who license her AI model) to generate highly accurate images of her. Soon to be integrated into makery.ai.

This process can be broken down into three essential elements. "The first step in effective curation is the ability to discern and select the best ideas from a vast pool generated by AI. This requires a deep understanding of the relevant industry, market trends, and the specific needs of the organization. Curators must sift through numerous AI-generated concepts, identifying those with the greatest potential for impact and feasibility. This skill involves critical thinking, industry knowledge, and an intuitive grasp of what will resonate with stakeholders. "Once the best ideas are selected, the next step is editing and refining these concepts. Generative AI, despite its capabilities, can still produce raw and unpolished ideas that require human intervention to reach their full potential. News Corp Sues AI Firm Perplexity In a fervent clash of media titans versus technological innovators, News Corp launched a lawsuit against the AI search engine company, Perplexity, decrying the firm's extensive replication of copyrighted material. Perplexity, undeterred, swiftly countered these accusations in a public blog post, framing the lawsuit as a gloomy symbol of the entrenched animosity and misunderstanding between media and tech. According to Perplexity, the crux of News Corp's grievance—ownership of "publicly reported facts"—is a misguided notion, given that facts are not subject to copyright, only their specific expression is. For my latest story in WIRED I dove into the (unsexy) world of enterprise AI apps, a group of startups that are either pivoting their business model from consumer AI to enterprise AI, or that have launched with that intent from the start. A few things I learned from reporting this out: -Charging big businesses per seat or per employee for software is a well-worn model, but with generative AI, companies have to take into account the cost of "tokens", or units of data processed by AI models -OpenAI has grown its enterprise sales and go-to-market team *significantly* over the past 18 months; that team of employees is now 1/5th of the company. -A lot of entrepreneurs, like Clay Bavor of Sierra and Keith Peiris of Tome, think AI software that has a very narrow focus is more compelling right now than broad & wide AI apps -And, most obviously, AI errors could be seriously consequential if the software is being used in healthcare, manufacturing, security, etc. “It’s one thing for ChatGPT or Midjourney to get 'creative' for an end user. It’s quite another thing for AI to get creative in the context of business applications.”

The AI landscape is changing beneath our feet. "Ilya Sutskever, co-founder of AI labs Safe Superintelligence (SSI) and OpenAI, told Reuters recently that results from scaling up pre-training - the phase of training an AI model that uses a vast amount of unlabeled data to understand language patterns and structures - have plateaued. To overcome these challenges, researchers are exploring 'test-time compute,' a technique that enhances existing AI models during the so-called 'inference' phase, or when the model is being used. For example, instead of immediately choosing a single answer, a model could generate and evaluate multiple possibilities in real-time, ultimately choosing the best path forward. 'This shift will move us from a world of massive pre-training clusters toward inference clouds, which are distributed, cloud-based servers for inference,' Sonya Huang, a partner at Sequoia Capital, told Reuters."
