Type of Technique: SIM Swapping Why SMS/Text based MFA is not a great solution. (But maybe better than nothing?) Remediation: - Have a port out/number transfer pin if your carrier offers this. - Behavior-based alerts if available. Any other ideas to protect yourself from this?

My most common Helpdesk support tickets include: Resetting passwords. Creating or modifying Active Directory (AD) user accounts. Granting folder access by adding users to specific AD groups. Managing user permissions for Office 365 groups or distribution lists. Assisting with printing issues. Troubleshooting internet connectivity problems. Resolving various Outlook-related issues. Helping users adjust to a new operating system after a computer upgrade. Addressing antivirus alerts and removing malicious or unnecessary software. Installing or updating software for new employees, especially when they don’t have local admin rights. Troubleshooting application error messages.

In my helpdesk role, one of the most frustrating tasks is assigning new line managers for an entire team in Active Directory Users and Computers GUI. Luckily, PowerShell comes to the rescue. Instead of manually opening each user’s properties and checking or changing their manager one by one, I used the following PowerShell scripts. If you need to update the manager for multiple users, this PowerShell script makes it easy: # List of users $users = @("thor", "bbanner", "nromanoff") # Get Nick Fury's Distinguished Name (DN) to assign as the manager $nickFury = Get-ADUser -Identity "nfury" $nickFuryDN = $nickFury.DistinguishedName # Loop through each user to set their manager to Nick Fury foreach ($user in $users) { # Set the Manager attribute to Nick Fury's Distinguished Name Set-ADUser -Identity $user -Manager $nickFuryDN write-host "$user's manager has been changed to Nick Fury." Updating my certifications - it's been a while and I'm overdue. I recently passed the MS-700: Teams Administrator exam, am refreshing the MS-721 Collaboration Communications Systems Engineer before it expires and now moving to complete the MS-102: Administrator Expert exam. I'm wanting to round out my Modern Workplace tree and complete the whole track on M365 Admin Expert path. Microsoft skills have been my bread and butter since Windows NT and the journey goes on. Pretty exciting stuff when I look back on all the changes over time - it makes me reminiscent for my time as a full-time Microsoft Certified Trainer.. I've also been studying CoPilot on the side. Been very interesting to see how AI can be smartly used in the right places, especially for people like me that lack creative processes like generating PowerPoint slides or Excel spreadsheets. It's just not my thing but to have a tool like CoPilot around to give a boost to using generative AI, it's pretty amazing.

If you’ve been having trouble connecting to your VPN (Virtual Private Network) on Windows 11, Windows 10, or Windows Server since the April security update, worry no more. Microsoft has resolved the issue with the May 2024 Patch Tuesday update. This bug affected many people, but Microsoft quickly acknowledged the problem and got to work on a fix. Now, you can enjoy seamless VPN connections again. If you can’t install the May update immediately across your business, there’s a temporary workaround: You can remove the April updates using a specific command, but this will also remove important security fixes, so it’s best to update to the latest patch as soon as possible. This was an excellent journey of learning about Backups and Restores against disaster recovery. In addition to the completely practical training, I had the opportunity to take the qualification exam to obtain the Admins I degree. Bacula is an open source backup solution that is completely network-based, which allows you to back up any sort of system (Unix, Linux, Windows, Mac, BSD, etc.) and stores the data in any location (disk, tape, removable, cloud, etc.), monitors what is being stored where and allows easy restore of the backed up data. Bacula offers a very practical and wonderful way of managing Backups. It has a centralized management and is quite scalable. One of its feature is the automation, Bacula uses autochangers to avoid manual media management and automatically run jobs, rescheduling the failed ones.
