Todays tip! Proofreading, people. Face it, we’re all busy & sending off a quick email or text can quickly go awry. Take a minute to ensure your communications are clear. Read it out loud. Does it make sense when spoken aloud? Your coworkers may think you’re nuts but at least your messages will read properly. Oh, and auto “duck” correct could be devastating. Don’t be too hasty to hit send. You may have some explaining and backpedaling to do.

Too many words! In HR, we often send emails with detailed information for employees. Maybe it is how to apply for FMLA, or how to renew a license or certification, or the steps to follow for benefits enrollment. We also often complain that no one reads the emails we send. We get calls asking us questions that were answered in the email we just sent. The frustration is real! But… what if we stopped complaining that no one read the email and started considering the employees’ perspective? Could we send the information differently? Is there a better way to communicate the same information? Details and compliance are important, but sometimes too many words can block the intended message. We have to self evaluate, to reflect on our own practices with a willingness to shift.

Leaving the Agile Alliance conference with some serious thoughts. #HR professionals: we need to do a much better job at partnering with (not just supporting) #agile departments within our organization. If there is one major takeaway it’s this: both teams are doing the same thing. We’re empowering employees to do their best work and live their best lives. 9.11 and HR Leadership I've noticed my recent posts combine things that typically don't go together. Today's intersection is focused on the 9.11 attacks and HR Leadership. This SHRM article was shared in a private HR group this morning and I was inspired. Alayne Gentul was a SENIOR VIE PRESIDENT OF HR and sacrificed her own life to help save 40 other lives. In a world where HR is divided, this article is a great reminder that: ❤️ No job is ever too small. There are a lot of SVPs who wouldn't run into the fire for their employees. ❤️ You can never influence someone whose values mean more than a paycheck. ❤️ True Servant Leadership exists and empathy is a top skill that great Leaders possess. Alayne Gentul is survived by her husband and two sons. The article closes with this beautiful quote from her husband, Jack: "There is not a day that she is not mentioned. But it’s not sadness anymore. It’s all in affection and humor and remembrance.” As you lead, do you go through the motions or do you remember that each day is an opportunity to build your legacy? Many HR leaders and companies are preparing to kick off open enrollment this time of year, and some of those plans contain voluntary benefits. The rise of voluntary benefits helps to attract and retain talent, fosters employee well-being and engagement, and helps employees feel valued. 5 key voluntary benefits that are becoming popular and will become more prevalent by 2025: 1.
