Instead, focus on building your own capabilities and being the best you can be. People will follow a capable and trustworthy leader. Building trust and not blaming uncontrollable outcomes are crucial elements of leadership. As I&D(Inclusion & Diversity) continues to be a critical topic in global organizations, it's important to address misconceptions. It's not just about gender; it's about creating an inclusive environment for everyone. For women aspiring to lead in male-dominated industries, a strategy of self-empowerment and trust-building is essential. 🎯 Work-Life Balance: Managing work and life is about prioritizing, not choosing. He shared that he makes sure to block time for his family from 7 to 10 PM and reserves "me time" from 8 AM to 12 PM on weekends. This resonated with me as I struggle to find a balance between work, health, and family time. His approach offers a practical solution to maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

ADI: The automotive business continues to grow, and customer inventory is expected to improve in the second quarter. ADI's revenue in the first quarter of 2024 (the quarter before February 3, 2024) was US$2.513 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 23%. From the perspective of the application market, ADI's industrial business revenue in the first quarter was US$1.197 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 31%, and the proportion of revenue decreased from 54% to 47%; the automotive business revenue was US$739 million, a year-on-year increase of 9%, and the proportion of revenue increased from 21% to 29%; the communication business revenue was US$303 million, a year-on-year decrease of 37%, and the proportion of revenue decreased from 15% to 12%; consumer electronics revenue was US$274 million, a year-on-year decrease of 22%, and the proportion remained unchanged. ADI CEO and Chairman Vincent Roche said that ADI's revenue and profitability in the first quarter were still higher than the midpoint of expectations, and expected that customer inventory would be expected to improve in the second quarter, and the business development background in the second half of the year would be more favorable. Last week, the power management sector witnessed an impactful merger of two PMIC powerhouses, Renesas Electronics, and Transphorm Inc., which highlighted the timeless expression that the whole could indeed be greater than the sum of its parts.   This acquisition is part of Renesas’ long-term strategy for driving growth in the power industry and it follows previous strategic acquisitions of Dialog Semiconductor in 2021, IDT in 2018, and Intersil in 2017. Since acquiring Dialog, the power management sector has seen rapid growth in demand for wide-bandgap materials, primarily driven by the increased adoption of electric vehicles (EVs), industrial applications, and renewable power generation. GaN and SiC have become highly sought after and although WBG adoption is still in its early stages, the industry as a whole recognizes the importance of WBG materials for capitalizing on growing trends and future opportunities. This acquisition is not just a strategic hedge for the future; it has an immediate impact on their customers' businesses. Renesas and Transphorms’ combined portfolio promises to increase access to advanced wide-bandgap (WBG) technologies and aid companies in transitioning to more efficient, cleaner power delivery and management systems. Transphorm’s GaN IP portfolio includes over 1,000 patents and has already enabled Renesas to introduce 15 new “Winning Combinations”—market-ready reference designs combining Transphorm's GaN technologies with Renesas' embedded processing, power, connectivity, and analog portfolios. “Customers instantly benefit from the new GaN products through turnkey reference designs, which integrate technologies from both companies,” said Chris Allexandre, SVP, and GM of Power at Renesas. “Adding GaN into our portfolio also reinforces our commitment to develop products and technology that make people’s lives easier. Providing robust and sustainable power solutions that save energy, reduce cost and minimize environmental impacts does just that.” Renesas’ commitment to investing in WBG space isn’t only demonstrated through buying companies, it’s also shown in the establishment of their Kofu, Japan factory, a facility specializing in manufacturing power products using 300-mm wafers. They’ve also increased their production capacity by setting up a new SiC production line at their Takasaki, Japan factory and they’ve secured a reliable SiC wafer supply for the next decade through a partnership with Wolfspeed. Renesas’ aim to offer more wide-bandgap power solutions to meet the needs of an evolving market is very wise, and I admire the fact that they’re looking at their financial resources and investing toward the proliferation of technologies in the manufacturing sense as well. These moves make them a powerful contender and I believe we’ll see Renesas increasing their market share in the near future as well as climbing the charts of the most respected power semiconductor companies worldwide.

Faraday Joins Intel Alliance Faraday Technology Corporation (3035) announced yesterday (27th) that it has joined the Intel Foundry Services (IFS) Design Solutions Alliance, which is seen as a further upgrade in the cooperation between the two parties. Faraday pointed out that this collaboration marks an important milestone in ASIC design solutions meeting the needs of customers' next-generation applications in fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), high-performance computing (HPC), and smart automotive. Faraday's COO, Lin Shih-chin, noted that Intel's leading RibbonFET technology and innovative multi-chip 2.5D/3D-IC packaging solutions align well with Faraday's system-on-chip integration capabilities. Meanwhile, Suk Lee, Vice President of Intel Foundry Services' Ecosystem Technology, mentioned that the partnership with Faraday aims to accelerate the commercialization of silicon concepts. Faraday adopts a flexible business model in all phases of ASIC development, from system specification discussions, customer-designed GDS, to chip manufacturing, verification, packaging, and testing. This allows for a seamless end-to-end co-development process that aids clients in driving innovation in next-generation customized system-on-chip products. SK Hynix Commits $14.5 Billion to Build a DRAM Line In Cheongju SK Hynix will commit 20 trillion won ($14.5 billion) to set up an advanced dynamic random memory (DRAM) chip fabrication line in Cheongju, North Chungcheong, in a reversal of its original plan to produce NAND there. The M15X line will be located next to the existing M15 line and will be dedicated to producing DRAM including high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips. Construction is scheduled to start this month and be completed by November 2025. Early mass production will also start simultaneously. SK Hynix said it plans to invest 5.3 trillion won to build the plant and at least an additional 15 trillion won to purchase chip equipment for the new line over the long term. As a global leader in AI memory chips, SK Hynix plans to expand investment in its domestic manufacturing base, which is the foundation of our competitiveness, the company said in a release Wednesday. Through the investment, SK Hynix plans to contribute to the vitalization of the Korean economy as well as elevate the status of Korea as a chip powerhouse. As for relatively mature DRAM like DDR4 and DDR3, Samsung plans to maintain production capacity at pre-reduction levels or even gradually phase out DDR3 from the market, expanding its procurement strategy. Despite a slower recovery in certain end markets, robust demand for AI chips and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) has been a major driving force behind the industry’s growth. ☑️The report noted that seasonal factors and weak consumer demand led to a 0.8% year-on-year decline in electronics sales in the first half of 2024. However, electronics sales are expected to rebound in Q3 2024, with a year-on-year growth of 4%. IC sales grew by 27% year-on-year in Q2 2024 and are expected to increase by 29% year-on-year in Q3, surpassing the record levels set in 2021. This growth is largely driven by rising demand fueled by artificial intelligence. ☑️Wafer fab capacity reached 40.5 million wafers per quarter (in 300mm equivalents) in Q2 2024, with a projected growth of 1.6% in Q3. Foundry and logic-related capacity are expected to continue growing in Q3, driven by increases in advanced node capacity. This trend highlights a slow recovery in the market, despite some positive signs. ☑️Shin-Etsu Chemical reported a decrease in wafer demand in Q2 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. However, there was an improvement compared to Q1 2024, indicating that the market may be entering a recovery phase. Driven by increasing demand for artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, Shin-Etsu Chemical expects a gradual rise in shipments of 12-inch silicon wafers in Q3. In contrast, demand for 8-inch wafers is expected to remain sluggish. ☑️On the other hand, data released by SUMCO reflects a similar downturn. Stellantis and Infineon Technologies will work jointly on the power architecture for Stellantis’ #electricvehicles to support Stellantis’ ambition of offering clean, safe and affordable mobility to all. To support this, the companies have signed major supply and capacity agreements that will serve as the foundation for the planned collaboration to develop the next generation of power architecture, including: - Infineon’s #PROFET™ smart power switches, which will replace traditional fuses, reduce wiring and enable Stellantis to become one of the first automakers to implement intelligent power network management. - #SiC #semiconductors, which will support Stellantis in its efforts to standardize its power modules, improve the performance and efficiency of EVs while also reducing costs. - #AURIXT™ microcontrollers, which target the first generation of the STLA Brain zonal architecture.
