It goes without saying that we’re grappling with increasingly complex and interconnected challenges. We have seen war creating inflation and exacerbating an energy crisis. Climate volatility leading to food insecurity and poor nutrition. Political instability and lack of leadership degrading our social systems and institutions like health and education. This is why UNICEF’s integrated solutions are so critical, and why unrestricted funding is so valuable. Because we need to be agile, with the flexibility to direct funding to where it’s needed most. Because UNICEF is for every child, everywhere, all the time. Not some children, somewhere, some of the time. Carla speaks to this so beautifully in a new article with Les Echos that our team has produced as part of a series of content rolling out across the U.S, UK and France. We’ll be shining a spotlight on the power of flexible funding in upholding child rights and accelerating progress towards the 2030 Agenda through investments in systems that uplift children as the starting priority. In wartime or in peacetime, the tyrannies conspire to control the lives, health, and education of women. We recognize therefore that tyrannies are always at war with women. And without the good health and education of women, all societies become despondent and dysfunctional. #Climate change and #environmentaldegradation pose increasing risks to #peaceandsecurity. Wetlands are becoming increasingly degraded. #Waterconflicts are increasing.  Without restoring, conserving, and sustainably using our wetland ecosystems, there can be no inclusive, #sustainabledevelopment. Given the current situation in the Sahel, we believe that wetland ecosystems can play a key role in supporting the EU in addressing the structural causes of Sahelian crises. One set of challenges is to combat the effects of climate change and environmental degradation, which have had a particularly severe impact on the region and have subtly fuelled often violent competition for resources. Another is to strengthen the capacity of governments to respond to the needs of the world's youngest, fastest-growing and poorest populations.  Healthy #wetlands for peace and stability: this is what my colleagues in #Sahel are working on tirelessly. Direct exposure of board members to the core business of the organization is a central element of effective governance. This years' field visit of the Executive Board of UNICEF took place in Madagascar earlier this month from 1 - 5 July. Very empowering for Board members. However, how did the host country benefit?
