National Black Business Conference to Celebrate 125 Years Emphasizing Power of Collaboration Across the African Diaspora Third Annual Pan-African Business Summit, Co-Chairs to Promote Global Partnerships and Connections As part of the league’s 125th conference, the National Alliance for Black Businesses will host the Third Annual Pan-African Business Summit, in order to empower and transform entrepreneurs by promoting growth, collaboration, and innovation. Recently, the alliance, co-founded in part by the league, recently appointed three co-chairs for next year’s summit who further the mission of working across the African diaspora: Dr. Djibril Diallo, Dr. Georgette Fraser-Moore and Curtis Smith Jr. “Their combined global entrepreneurial insights and leadership will be invaluable to this initiative,” said the Honorable Johnny Ford, Tuskegee’s first African American mayor and founder of the World Conference of Mayors, a collaborator with the league and the National Alliance for Black Businesses. Behind the Organizations: Collective Goals for the Conference and Summit As founder of the National Business League, Washington believed the most effective way to guarantee civil rights for Black communities was a secure economic foundation centered on entrepreneurship — where individuals would start from the bottom and collectively work toward success.  The summit and conference leaders emphasize what Washington understood years ago: Black entrepreneurs and businesses are critical to helping growth in their communities overall. More than a century after the league’s founding, Black business ownership increased by 29% between 2017 and 2021, according to Pew Research Center. Nonetheless, there’s still work to do, as Pew reported that in 2021, only 3% of businesses in the U.S. were Black-owned. Since its inception, the National Business League has worked toward reducing that gap through forming and promoting partnerships, like in the creation of the National Alliance for Black Businesses. The alliance is co-founded by the National Business League and National Black Chamber of Commerce, and with quick support soon after from the World Conference of Mayors, in order to champion a “unified Black business agenda.”  Created to encourage worldwide economic advancement by forming bonds between mayors, the World Conference of Mayors is following the lead of Black political leaders before them in their work with the National Alliance of Black Businesses and the upcoming summit. more.... https://lnkd.in/d6UrBbAy

In the wake of Vice President Kamala Harris's ascension as the presumptive nominee for the Democratic Party, the Howard University Initiative on Public Opinion conducted a poll on the opinions of Black voters July 22-24 in relation to Harris's candidacy. The report includes results from more than 2000 respondents from more than 30 states, weighted by gender and education level. Results suggest that Harris is best known for her advocacy for reproductive rights, that her best path to victory is to select a white male running mate, and that respondents view her as a politically moderate Democrat. 124th National Black Business Conference Returns to Atlanta “We Are Together” Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the World Conference of Mayors. The National Alliance for Black Business (2022), co-founded by The National Business League ® (1900), National Black Chamber of Commerce ® (1993), and The World Conference of Mayors ® (1984), is thrilled to cohost the NBL’s 124th National Black Business Conference ®. Set to take place from August 21-24, 2024, at the Hilton Atlanta in downtown Atlanta, GA, this highly anticipated event coincides with Atlanta Black Business Weekend ™, promising an exhilarating gathering of the nation’s foremost Black business leaders and community luminaries.   Building upon the success of last year's conference, which commemorated the 30th Anniversary of the National Black Chamber of Commerce founded in 1993 and drew over 1,900 attendees, this year's event holds special significance as it celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the World Conference of Mayors. Established in 1984, The World Conference of Mayors serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of Black Mayoral leadership and economic empowerment within Black communities worldwide. This year marks a significant milestone, as it pays homage to 50 years since the Southern Conference of Black Mayors held its inaugural National Conference at the Hilton Atlanta Hotel. Notably, Daniel "Chappy" James, the first four-star Black general in the Air Force and a Tuskegee airman, served as keynote speaker, setting the stage for the remarkable journey of Black elected leadership in the years to come. The conference agenda will spotlight the profound impact of Black mayors in fostering entrepreneurship, economic development, and community growth, echoing the visionary principles championed by Booker T. Washington. In 1881, Lewis Adams (Town) and Booker T. Washington (Gown) joined forces to establish Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, now known as Tuskegee University, in Tuskegee Institute, Alabama. This institution was surrounded by a historic Black settlement, conceived by Dr. Washington, which, though never formally incorporated, was assigned its own zip code: 36088. This collaboration between "Town" and "Gown" laid the groundwork for further partnerships in central Alabama.   Anticipated to attract hundreds of Black-owned businesses, professionals, and elected officials from around the globe, the conference will serve as a dynamic platform for networking, knowledge-sharing, and forging strategic partnerships with city, state, national, federal, and global resources, and leadership. The event is hosted by local, Black-led business institutions, including the Atlanta Business League, Greater Georgia Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Georgia Minority Supplier Development Council. Who the f$#@ are all of these white men? Now hear me out, I have an amazing client who owns a highly reputable trade school a part of the Virginia Black Chamber of Commerce. He's a black business owner, has worked with many upcoming #entrepreneurs of color, and has won awards for his incredible work in the local #NorthernVirginia community. 🤖 As I'm testing out AI programs to help facilitate his business growth, I've populated all of the prompts with his exact business info, images of him, his students (majority people of color, but still includes everyone from all walks of life), and his business clients (majority people of color). So what does this AI program generate when I ask for content "to inspire future students and upcoming business leaders" based on his business content? ...Keep in mind I'm spending my consulting firm's own money on AI tokens to generate content 💣 BOOM! It generates images of literally only white men doing business 😑 Maybe like 1 out of 5 images generated contained a man of color. I literally hand-fed this app content to base its #AI generation on. Of course, let's center #diversity for all and include people who are all skin colors - but only white men are this AI's response to future business leaders? Are you serious? So now what? I spend more of my own paid-for tokens to create images with a prompt specifically asking for a lil equity over here? This is exactly why there is a need for more #advocacy for #DEI in AI. 🚫 Now is not the time to loosen the reigns on #DEI. With the rise in AI, and #TechnologyforSocialGood we need to be mindful of how these programs impact our historically underserved communities. Through the work I do currently, I'm proud of being able to help communities get access to funding and resources through the use of AI. AI HAS THE POWER TO BE USED FOR GOOD! It's just a matter of how we decide to change it! 💻 Anways...Happy National AI Appreciation Day! As we commemorate the International Day for People of African Descent, we also recognize the culmination of the International Decade for People of African Descent. This global initiative, launched by the United Nations, has not only amplified the voices of Black people but has also yielded tangible progress in addressing historical wrongs. The Decade has brought forth meaningful changes: increased global awareness, substantial funding for educational and cultural initiatives, and influential policy shifts aimed at combating systemic racism. Achievements include expanded scholarship opportunities, transformative public art projects, and international dialogues that have shaped policy and inspired action. These concrete outcomes reflect a collective effort to confront and redress the legacies of oppression. America’s Black Holocaust Museum (ABHM) stands in alignment with these global strides. Since the inception of America's Black Holocaust Museum (ABHM), we have been deeply connected to the essence of this day. Our mission, established by our Founder, Dr. James Cameron, and continued by our dedicated staff and supporters, focuses on shedding light on the lasting effects of slavery, the Jim Crow era and an unjust system. We are committed to promoting racial healing, reconciliation, and the ongoing process of repairing historical injustices. Our work in education and public advocacy mirrors the progress achieved through this global initiative. Today, as we honor this day, we acknowledge the strides made and reaffirm our commitment to a more equitable future.
