Friends... I'm calling out old favors and am asking for support to move forward on a business plan. Feel free to share with your network to see where this leads. The concept of "The Owl Nest" continues to evolve and may manifest soon with a new name... Picaflores Wilderness Retreat (Spanish for hummingbird). There is genuinely sacred land for sale just west of the Cascade Mountain Range in lush temperate rainforest... featuring 25 acres with a lovely home, cabin, temple yurt, bathhouses, Bali pagoda, ceremonial sweat lodge, greenhouse, and three healthy creeks running through it. This particular property and timing is critical because the owner has stewarded this land for nearly 25 years and it has been a site of deep devotion to the land and community, including meaningful retreats, shamanistic journeys, weddings, and small festivals (~300 people). There is room for growth and I am (finally) ready to move this vision forward. I am asking for support from various skillsets to... -refine the business plan -design a new logo with marketing/branding strategy -discuss the funding process and potential sources to cover $2M, potentially including a blend of SBA loan and private investors ($1.7M purchase price with leftover for deferred maintenance and capital investments) -help navigate legalities and purchasing considerations -a dozen other things I am at a cross-roads... on one hand, following the heart and listening to intuition is often a matter of subtly tuning into oneself... on the other hand, there comes a time to boldly pick the fruit when it is ripe. Janine Aquino: What inspired you to get into the business of selling wineries? I have been in the wine and winery industry for my entire life. Grew up on a vineyard growing grapes and making wine as a child and my family had a generational wine importing company in New York. I worked for wineries in the Hudson Valley region of New York, then I moved to Ohio where I owned and operated a winery for 10 years. The pandemic hit and I was given an opportunity to work at wineries in Virginia, so I took a chance and it has become a very fulfilling career. I started consulting wineries in operations and strategic planning and my clients were wanting to buy wineries and I thought since Virginia didn't really have a seasoned wine professional selling winery, this would be a great fit for me.
