BREAKING - CERTAINLY A FALSE WARNING: U.S. officials claim that as the 2024 presidential election approaches, disinformation is skyrocketing. As a result, they have issued more warnings to political candidates and government leaders about being targeted by foreign disinformation campaigns in recent months. NOTE: The alleged increase, noted by an official from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, is partly due to the heightened interest from adversaries during presidential elections. NOTE: The official who briefed reporters anonymously claimed that the rise in notifications, which started last fall, may indicate a growing threat or improved detection by the government, or both, according to the Associated Press. MY TAKE: Knowing how the intelligence community works in the United States, this is certainly one hundred percent false. The deluge of disinformation in the United States often comes from the government and the intelligence community. Almost everything and every piece of information is false, from why Americans should fund a foreign war to why those raising questions about COVID are banned online. It’s always one hundred percent false. It has always been, and certainly this new information is false propaganda, completely false. The United States doesn’t need Russia or China or others to spread disinformation across the country, has never needed them, and will never need them. But the falsehood is necessary to legitimize their propaganda. Here, the intelligence community can tell you a laptop is fake, but that’s actually disinformation; it’s all a lie. They can tell you the COVID vaccine is one hundred percent or fifty percent effective, but it’s actually a lie. Everything is a lie, but those who point out the lies are branded as liars and banned. It’s a citadel of falsehoods.

In this truly excellent interview with Flávia Furlan Nunes, the always candid Mark Calabria shares his thoughts on the likelihood of the GSEs exiting conservatorship under a second Trump administration, the future of the CFPB, closed-end seconds, what the Biden administration has gotten wrong on housing, the NAR lawsuit and much, much more. Here's a sneak preview: Nunes: What is your opinion on the current administration’s initiatives in the mortgage space? Calabria: There’s been a weakening of underwriting standards by this administration, not just at FHA, but also at Fannie and Freddie.  If I can be slightly humorous, my description of the Biden administration’s housing policies is that they see two families competing aggressively over one house and they believe the solution is to add a third family. You’ve seen this massive expansion, high debt-to-income lending, that has been irresponsible and doesn’t do anything other than erode affordability. That has added to housing demand. Keep in mind that you’re in an economy where you saw big increases in homeowners insurance. If you’re getting somebody into a loan with a 50 DTI, and then suddenly they’ve got an increase in their homeowners insurance, that’s not a sustainable world. There have been increases in allowable loan to value. Obviously, there’s been a lot of pressure to increase appraisals and weaken appraisal independence, which probably has inflated housing values as well. They’ve done things that even don’t show up as directly. The CFPB has pushed for the elimination of medical debt and other things [from credit scores]. That may be the right policy, but it inflates FICO scores. If you’re not increasing the credit box to offset that, then you are knowingly decreasing the underwriting. The twofold increase in the number of BRICS members – with more hopefuls waiting in a queue – indicates growing discontent with the international political and financial systems, which, many believe, protect the geopolitical interests of the “developed few” with scant regard for the “developing majority.” The bloc’s rapid expansion is a wake-up for the US to embrace a more equitable global governance system. BREAKING - Harris's narrow lead evaporates in swing states: According to the latest polling from FiveThirtyEight, the presidential race is a nail-biter in several swing states. Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Nevada show an even split between candidates, signaling no clear frontrunner. Meanwhile, Republicans are slightly ahead in North Carolina (R+1) and Arizona (R+2). NOTE: With only 18 days remaining, both campaigns are ramping up efforts in these critical battlegrounds, where even the smallest shifts in support could tip the balance. NOTE: As always, leading in a poll or polling average does not guarantee any election win. This race is extremely close and could swing either way. Both Trump and Harris have viable paths to victory. Anyone who dismisses either of them at this point is letting their emotions drive them rather than reality.
