Celebrating our annual holiday dinner with our Families in Transition at our Huntington Avenue YMCA! This event would not be possible without our partners DoorDash and Boston Business Journal who provided food and wrapped gifts for our families, gestures that not only fulfills holiday wishes but bring big smiles and warmth to those who need it most. This event helps to foster a tradition of community, security, and care - the heart of the Y's mission. Thank you DoorDash, Boston Business Journal, Marty Waltz, Jay Livingstone, Mark Lippolt, Steve Cormier, Christina Kennedy, Wendy Zion, David Shapiro, Donna Kendell, Gwen McCoy, and so many more who helped spread joy this holiday season! 🎁

We’re excited to invest Mass General Brigham Community Health Impact Funds in a new food storage and distribution center along with Mayor Michelle Wu, the city of Boston, and the YMCA of Greater Boston. Located in Roxbury, this unique facility will provide cold storage and freezer space for the YMCA to coordinate fresh foods distribution to the community, while reducing food waste and promoting environmental sustainability. This new initiative aligns with our system’s goal of tackling food insecurity in the communities we serve. “If someone comes to our emergency department . . . and they’re put on a care plan for whatever is going on with them, and we send them away but they’re hungry, they’re likely not going to be able to follow the care plan because they’re more worried about, ‘What am I going to eat? How am I going to feed my family?’ So, if we’re not taking care of that essential need, then their health care suffers,” shared Tracy Sylven, MCHES, CHC, MGB Director, Community Health and Senior Advisor, Community Nutrition Equity and Social Risk Mitigation. Read more about the partnership in this Boston Globe Media article.

We are proud to announce our partnership with the City of Boston and Mass General Brigham to provide a collaborative food distribution hub to combat food insecurity. Our 27,000 sq ft facility with cold storage allows for more fresh foods available for people who need them and reduces waste. We're excited to find new and better ways serve our community with the help from our partners! https://lnkd.in/e3hd47nQ
