When it comes to #cybersecurity, networks can only be as strong as their weakest link. It’s an adage that applies to most markets, but this is especially true for the #utilities sector. The adoption and expansion of smart utilities is accelerating, as their ability to enhance network efficiency, enable proactive maintenance, and promote sustainability is highly beneficial for operators. In an expert opinion piece for The Fast Mode, Wi-SUN CEO and President Phil Beecher highlights the importance of #standardized, multi-layered networks, as well as the introduction of AI to ensure security for utilities: https://lnkd.in/ePaZJ6iQ

During a keynote presentation and Q&A session at today’s Wi-SUN Alliance October Member Meeting, Duke Energy Corporation Director Joe Vale and National Grid Head of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), NY Michael Mokey shared the “utility experience” of the Wi-SUN FAN network. In his presentation, Vale discussed the importance of #interoperability and the ability to integrate new #metering technology quickly to adapt to key industry challenges such as rapid changes in energy demands and evolving customer preferences. Networks built on industry #standards allow #smart #utility operators to avoid a complete “rip and replace” of old meters, provide the flexibility to seamlessly integrate new equipment from a diverse range of vendors into the network when required and enable the future IoT innovation. 'When it comes to #cybersecurity, there is an old adage that still applies today – you are only as strong as your weakest link. If an attacker can gain access to a utilities network, it is not just sensitive data at risk; they can carry out large-scale attacks that can compromise critical infrastructure and cause significant damage.' In his latest feature with IoT Insider, Wi-SUN CEO and President Phil Beecher details the threat landscape facing the #utilities sector, and the measures businesses should consider to establish a strong line of defence: https://lnkd.in/e3hhz3bH
