This paper presents a novel and accurate procedure for designing a #Doherty #power #amplifier (#DPA) for wireless systems. The method is based on a systematic approach to designing the matching networks of both Main and Auxiliary devices, which employs an optimization process to set their input impedance in the corresponding optimal regions obtained from the standard load- and source-pull simulations. To import the optimum regions of each device into the optimization algorithm, mathematical expressions are derived and graphically reported on the Smith chart. Researchers achieve record-breaking data transmission speed with expanded fibre bandwidth A new achievement in data transmission has been announced by researchers from Japan and the United Kingdom. By broadening the communication bandwidth of commercial-grade optical fibre, the team has set a new record for data transmission speed, achieving rates four times faster than existing commercial systems. This impressive feat marks a 33 percent increase over the previous record. Led by the Photonic Network Laboratory of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), the team demonstrated an aggregate optical transmission bandwidth of 37.6 THz, achieving a data rate of 402 terabits per second. This was accomplished using standard commercially available optical fibre. This achievement paves the way for the future of "Beyond #5G" information services, enabling higher data-rate transmission and extending the lifespan of existing #FibreNetworks. WiFi brings on mmWave to challenge 5G Advanced in release 8 WiFi looks set to incorporate mmWave line of sight indoor transmission in its next release 8 due out around 2026, although with surprising lack of clarity over technical details. There have been few further revelations since publication of a paper in September 2023 entitled ‘Wi-Fi 8: Embracing the Millimeter-Wave Era’, which seemed to mix technical detail with aspiration. It looks like WiFi 8 will continue in the mold of recent releases in delivering what should have come out in the previous release, and in forever playing catch up with cellular over more advanced capabilities. The situation was different in the early era of cellular data under 3G, when WiFi always seemed to have the edge. #wifi #5G #cellular

Poor network planning, spectrum policy, can still hold back private 5G Private 5G has not taken off as quickly as hoped, after early successes among some larger enterprises in manufacturing and engineering, partly because it has taken longer to come out with convincing offerings for SMEs that take out the heavy lifting for them. There are also big differences between countries over regulations and allocation of spectrum that have inhibited deployments in these markets and fragmented the field somewhat. The GSMA admitted to this disenchantment obliquely in a blog published just before MWC 2024, with the comment “however, nearly six years after the first 5G launches, private networks still represent new ground in terms of regulatory best practice.” The blog addressed the role of spectrum allocation in encouraging or inhibiting private 5G network deployment in specific markets. #5G #networks #cellular

Many #LTE networks have been launched using #midband #spectrum, and operators and regulators have come to recognise the value of mid-band spectrum for #5G networks with its combination of #coverage and #capacity. As the rapid commercial introduction of 5G continues and demand for bandwidth continues to rise rapidly in both LTE and 5G networks, telecom regulators around the world are working to free up more spectrum for services. Including those underway, there are 20 spectrum auctions potentially taking place during the remainder of 2024. With many other countries and territories still to set out their 5G licensing strategies, we expect more will follow in 2025. GSA will track and report on progress in future updates of this report.
