About us
Valley Water manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's nearly 2 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 400 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 275 miles of streams. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses in Santa Clara County. In 2018, the water district was certified as a Great Place to Work®, and as the "Healthiest Employer in the San Francisco Bay Area" for companies with 500 to 1,999 employees.

On December 1, storage in Guadalupe Reservoir was at a level that allowed for a migration pulse flow to be released. These pulse flows increase creek levels and are designed to attract adult steelhead and Chinook salmon and help them make their way upstream into valuable spawning habitats. After the release, our biologists found multiple Chinook salmon, redds (fish nests), and evidence of successful spawning throughout Guadalupe Creek. The release event was a success for our FAHCE program and allowed Chinook salmon to navigate to a beneficial spawning habitat.

At Valley Water, planning for the future is critical to ensuring safe, clean water for a healthy life, environment, and economy in Silicon Valley. Each year, we update our Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Five-Year Plan, which outlines funding strategies for vital infrastructure projects. For Fiscal Year 2025-2029, the CIP includes 73 projects spanning water supply, flood protection, water stewardship, and more. We encourage the public to participate in shaping the future of water infrastructure. Throughout November, 96 volunteers cleaned up 3.3 miles of creek and natural spaces throughout Santa Clara County. Thanks to their efforts, our waterways are free of 1,720 pounds of trash & recyclables. Awesome work! Our Adopt-A-Creek program allows Santa Clara County residents to take an active role in preserving the health and beauty of our local creeks. Visit the link in our bio to learn how to become an Adopt-A-Creek partner. Adopt-A-Creek is funded by the voter-approved Safe, Clean Water and Natural Flood Protection Program.
