A big thank you to everyone who participated in the Toyota Ventures Startup Showcase during Climate Week NYC. Our team had the privilege of bringing together members of the climate tech ecosystem, including early stage startup executives, investors, policymakers, and media representatives. Toyota Ventures founder and general partner Jim Adler, together with Climate Fund partner Lisa Coca, set the tone of the event with opening remarks. We heard from founders and executives of our portfolio companies AM Batteries (Lie Shi, CEO ), ZymoChem (Joe Giallanella, vice president and general manager), Yard Stick PBC (Chris Tolles, co-founder and CEO), Ecolectro, Inc. (Gabriel G. Rodríguez-Calero, co-founder and CEO), Living Carbon (Maddie Hall, co-founder and CEO), Vow (Joe Turner, CFO) , and Zeno (Michael Spencer, founder and CEO). Following the startup presentations, Andrew Hawkins from The Verge moderated a fireside chat with Revel's co-founder and CEO, Frank Reig and vice president of corporate affairs, Haley Rubinson that underscored the urgent need for public-private partnerships to accelerate our journey towards carbon neutrality. The event wrapped up with a unique tasting experience from Vow, in partnership with Chef Carlos de la Concha and Chef Abigail Kern, who brought the company’s Forged Parfait to life. We’re grateful to all who helped make this event a success, and look forward to the next one!

Our portfolio company Haiqu recently published its paper "Scalable and shallow quantum circuits encoding probability distributions informed by asymptotic entanglement analysis" with HSBC. Read more below on how the team outlines ways to create efficient quantum circuits that represent probability distributions through the use of financial data.
Quantum computing cannot achieve wide utility in the near term until we can efficiently load classical data onto quantum hardware. Now, we can. We are very excited about our joint work with HSBC, where we encode the largest financial distributions to date on IBM QPUs. Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gzBU7a7i Our approach extends recent Tensor Network techniques, which can be used to generate linear-depth quantum circuits for approximating functions. We derived analytical results on the quality of approximation based on the properties of the function, and used them to construct an improved algorithm yielding extremely shallow and accurate encoding quantum circuits, which are easily executable on near-term devices. Our approach is compute- and memory-efficient and, contrary to previous approaches, scalable to utility-size problems. If you want to learn more, come see Richard & Mykola speak about our work at Q2B on Tuesday. Tomorrow! A special thank you to Philip Intallura Ph.D, Philippe De Brouwer, and Georgios Korpas, Ph.D., MSCS.

Congratulations to our our portfolio company Vow, which announced the launch of Forged Gras – a revolutionary twist on the delicacy, foie gras. The announcment marks Vow as one of the first companies to actively be selling multiple cultured meat products in multiple markets. Read more below:
Hong Kong, we’ve arrived – but don’t think we came empty-handed! Say hello to our newest product Forged Gras, a foie gras made from cultured Japanese quail, coming to your streets in a deliberately different way. In an eccentric izakaya hidden in the heart of Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, Forged has launched into Hong Kong with The Aubrey. At one of Asia’s 50 Best Bars (# 10!), delight and indulge in Forged Parfait as it arrives in a shroud of sencha smoke and under a veil of chives. And for a limited time, pair Forged Parfait with Senses — a fresh take on an old fashioned, fat-washed with Forged Gras to deliver a deep, rich flavour complemented by layers of herbal notes and a touch of nuttiness from the Amontillado sherry. TLDR; So there we have it. We are in our second market, Hong Kong. Our second product, Forged Gras, pays homage to the classic — a richly satisfying fatty liver experience — but surprises with the deliberately different and subtle, clean, refined flavours of Japanese quail. And where else could we launch such a decadence, if not for The Aubrey's gilded halls at the Mandarin Oriental.
