Hello LinkedIn community, My name is Rean McKinley, and I’m the Executive General Manager of Gusto. With over 20 years in the hospitality industry across Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, and Canada, I’ve experienced the benefits (and challenges) of many POS systems. But I can honestly say that Toast is the best I’ve ever used. Since implementing Toast at Gusto last November, we’ve witnessed a true transformation. This past Saturday, November 9th, we hit an incredible milestone—700 covers in a single night! For a restaurant that only opens from 4 pm to 10 pm, this was a historic achievement. Before Toast, even on 500-cover nights, our wait times could stretch over an hour, which wasn’t ideal for our guests and resulted in longer table turn times, limiting our ability to serve more guests and ultimately capping our cover capacity. Before Toast, we rarely hit 600 covers in a night, and even reaching that required our management team to run laps around the restaurant, often issuing hundreds in promos to make up for long waits. Toast has completely changed that. This year, we’ve had countless 600+ cover nights with ease. Now, our team is not just meeting demand; we’re thriving on it. Toast has given us the tools to meet Gusto’s high demand while empowering our team to deliver an exceptional guest experience. With Toast’s KDS system, we’ve optimized our kitchen workflow to the point where ticket times are better than ever. On our record-breaking 700-cover night, only four bills reached the 40–45-minute range, with all other bills averaging just 30–35 minutes—a feat that would have been unthinkable without Toast. As an independent business, every dollar matters that much more, and Toast has allowed us to increase our capacity, streamline operations, and provide an elevated guest experience that supports both our bottom line and our reputation. The backend reporting has been a dream for myself and our managers, providing insights that help us operate strategically and make data-driven decisions. I’m so enthusiastic about Toast that I’ve recommended it to several other restaurants in Moncton—including Taverna, Sand Bar, Captain Dan’s, and Boulevard—all of which have since switched. And our sister restaurants, Sophia and Spritz, will soon be joining the Toast family as well. To the team at Toast, thank you for helping us redefine what’s possible at Gusto. Every year we poll restaurant decision makers across the US to understand the current state of the industry. The results are in and there’s good news: restaurant operators feel optimistic about the future. 🙌 Approximately 63% of restaurant operators surveyed who manage finances said that their profits in 2024 increased compared to last year. Inflation remains a top pain point, but fewer restaurant respondents said that they raised prices this year compared to last year.
