Best practice grant-making, succession planning and investment management were the topics discussed at our recent Oxfordshire Funders' Forum at the The Gradel Institute of Charity . Local funders came together to enjoy an insightful morning of strategic and practical discussions to help them be more effective. We were thrilled to welcome speakers including Professor Peter Frumkin, Academic Director at The Gradel Institute, who shared a model for thinking about philanthropic strategy; and Dame Helen Stephenson CBE, former CEO of the Charity Commission, who reflected on lessons for grant-making charities. Thanks to CCLA Investment Management for their generous sponsorship of the event! 👉 Read the article here and find out how you could join us at our next event: https://buff.ly/3Un4y5o

If you are a charitable grant funder, how do you implement best practice, ensure succession and feel confident your investments align with your values? These are some of the questions we addressed last week at Oxfordshire Community Foundation's sixth Funders' Forum, bringing together local charitable trusts and foundations at The Gradel Institute of Charity at New College, Oxford. We wanted to provide a space for funders of different sizes to reflect on their practice, and ask themselves if they are delivering value for the people and communities they were set up to support. Highlights were: 🎤 A talk from Peter Frumkin inviting funders to consider four theories of change in directing their philanthropy 🎤 A keynote from Dame Helen Stephenson CBE sharing an insider’s view into the work of the Charity Commission, and her reflections on lessons for grant-making charities since she stepped down in July 2024 ❔ A panel with Julian Smith and Ruo Wu looking at the key challenges facing trusts and foundations in the future 🤝 Workshop sessions and networking facilitated by Oliver Jones-Davies and Claire Hughes 👑 Great MCing as always by our brilliant CEO Zoe Sprigings! Have a look at the full write-up here: https://lnkd.in/eGK-F2hW. Huge thanks to our speakers, to the Gradel and New College for hosting, and CCLA Investment Management for their generous sponsorship. If you are a funder and would like to be on the invite list for the next one, please give me a shout! #CharityFunding #philanthropy #ModernGrantmaking

We are delighted to be co-hosting with the Skoll Centre for Social Entrepreneurship!
Please join us on Friday, November 15th (⏰ 15:30-16:30 GMT) at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford and online for our next #InsightsforAction seminar! In this seminar, which we are delighted to be co-hosting with The Gradel Institute of Charity, we will be joined by sociologist and non-profit strategist Leah Reisman, and EY sustainability partner and climate strategy advisor, Ben Taylor, to discuss the powerful role consultants play in shaping how organisations think about and do impact, in the non-profit, private and public sectors. Moderated by Professor Marya Hill-Popper Besharov, Academic Director of the Skoll Centre, the discussion will explore the power advisors wield, the problems that can arise in this relationship, and their potential to shape and scale the impact in the field. This seminar is hybrid and open to the public. For those joining in person, the seminar will be followed by a reception.
