Well, the Reuter rumors are confirmed, Bain Capital is going to acquire Envestnet, taking them private. The acquisition, particularly at this valuation (a billion more than it was in April), is noteworthy. Assuming a five-year exit strategy for Bain Capital, they would need to significantly grow what is already a market leader. Despite its leadership position, Envestnet has faced pressure from shareholders, including Impactive Capital (7.5%), underwent layoffs in 2023, and witnessed the departure of its CEO earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether the expansion into custodial services, planned for this year, will serve as a significant growth driver.
