A little rain didn't stop the Port of Brownsville from holding a groundbreaking ceremony for Phase 2 of the Brazos Island Harbor Channel Improvement Project this morning. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Galveston District and NextDecade joined the Brownsville Navigation District Board of Commissioners and port staff at Dock 3 to celebrate the Brazos Island Harbor Channel Improvement project to deepen the Brownsville Ship Channel form 42 feet to 52 feet. This project will enhance navigational safety and enable larger vessels to access South Texas. With over 6,000 jobs created during construction and 800 permanent positions, the project will drive significant economic growth in the Rio Grande Valley. “The Brazos Island Harbor Channel Improvement Project is paramount to the Port of Brownsville’s continued success. We are moving forward to enhance the navigational safety of the channel while securing our standing in the global marketplace,” said Brownsville Navigation District Chairman Esteban Guerra. “The BND is proud to partner with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and NextDecade to ensure lasting economic benefits and opportunities for families in the Rio Grande Valley.” #YourPortOurCommunity #ThePortThatWorks Read More: https://lnkd.in/gJR6UFXE
